G'day guys looking at buying my first sierra but first I have a few questions and hoping you could help me out.

Do I need a body lift to run 30" - 31" tyres or is just a suspension lift okay?
Either Either. You'll need bumpstop extentions with a spring lift. Are you going to run reduction gears? cos it will drive like an expensive piece of dogshit otherwise.

How much/ hard is it to replace swivel hub seals (91 sj70)
Not that hard in my opinion, depends on your skills.

Is a 91 SJ70 a WT model? Yes

How many km's are too many km's?
Over 200k is accepted as "getting on". But it depends on how its been treated.

What is the chance that a soft top leaks? Depends on the condition. Mine is perfect.

Do I need a body lift to run 30" - 31" tyres or is just a suspension lift okay? 31's i'd say yes unless your happy with chopping the guards a bit (AKA virtual lift). You can get away with 235's & 30's with just "persuading" the seams with a hammer. You may need to trim the front outriggers depending on rim offset.

How much/ hard is it to replace swivel hub seals (91 sj70) Just the wiper seals behind the knuckle? Cheap/easy as. However I'd be more inclined to do wheel/king pin bearings/seals at the same time if the swivel hub seals are on their way out.

Tyres will preobably scrub on the guards without one.

Nope - get used to doing some maintenance.

Yep.
How many km's are too many km's?
How long is a piece of string. My pretty much 100% reliable daily drive has nearly 320,000km and my POS play thing was already stuffed at 165,000km - all depends on maintenance.

Pretty good chance - the Sierras are hardly designed to be weatherproof.

Thanks for that dan , I'm a 2nd year apprentice mechanic so I should be okay with the hubs , but I've been told they can be a 5 hour job?

No BL required....but you will have to do a guard chop. Cheaper and easier to do BL. Hub seals are easy if you are mechanically minded Yes WT How long is a piece of string?? Depends, it could have had a rebuild etc Not all softop's leak, you might be lucky. I don't think I have ever seen one that is completely waterproof, you will most likely get some leaking albeit a tiny leak

Could be. I take my time to get it right and proper the first time. But somtimes things can be a royal bitch. Just like some people take days to try and undo transfer flanges. Took me about 2.653 seconds.

But at the same time i dont leave things in the car and make it pretty damn difficult to steal. But i like my soft top for 4wding, you can have the top off and a soft top hoop is easier to replace than a hard top roof when you lay it over

wow i type slow lol... there were no replies when i started my post lol. I've owned 2 soft tops and have been lucky regarding break ins (although my cattle dog did eat a hole in the driver side rear of it chasing trucks all the way from Cairns to Brisbane). Just don't leave tools or any items you'd be screwed without in the zook.

my zook has done 330000 and still going strong. as far as i am aware there a prety easy engine to rebuild (ive been told) anyway.
