Im building up a Maruti ute.

Pulling in a Vit 1.6 efi engine into the full body ute rather then the tray back due to the fact its registed and I think its a far better vehicle then the trayback (also due to the fact that it would upset the last owner).

Anyhow I have a few Qs about the diff sizes and transfer etc.

Ive decided to run a 4 speed auto Vit box with either a 1ltr transfer or 1.3ltr transfer.

Do rockhoppers fit into 1ltr transfer case?

And I have the option of running 3 different ratio of diffs.

Firstly I have 4.1 from the hard bodied Maruti on NT diffs.

The other Maruti has WT diffs but dont know the ratio and the Vit diffs which again I dont know the ratios or even if they will fit.

Im going to instal the WT diffs under the hard body Maruti, as this seems to be the go and im tossing up having rear disks and use the transfer hand brake rather then the WT conventional drum system.

Im currently running 30s on the NT Maruti as the 31s were cop bait as they stuck out a few inches past the guards.

Although the rims sizes are 15s and have a deep offset rim which make the vehicle look far better, I think its best to keep it legal until the vehicle is finished and has been engineered.

Later I can swap back to the wider tyres and rims. What are your thoughts, any help would be appreciated,

Pretty sure i will know the answers your looking for but to be honest im not sure what exactly the question is.

your putting wide track diffs under a narrow track and want to know what diff ratios are available correct?

you can get, 3.7, 3.9, 4.1, 4.3, 4.6, 4.8, 5.1, and i think 5.3 after market gears for the wide track diffs. the wide track maruti came out with 4.1s.

for the smaller narrow track diffs you can get 5.1, 4.8, 4.5, 4.1.

Crawler gears will only fit into the 1 litre case with the 4x4 light, but if you have one of those your better off selling it and picking up a 1.3 case to put your gears in.

Whats the best diff ratio to run 30, 31s with Vit auto box with Sierra transfer case or 1ltr transfer case? Good for highway etc, not much rock crawling etc. some beach work just mainly alround performance?

1.6, vitara auto, standard sierra 1.3 transfer and 5.1s will give you about 3400rpm at 100 on the high way


without transfer gears your lowrange will be shit though

ao???????? Alot of people dont comment on forums because when you add a new thread there are some folks out there who find it funny to bag you out. I started a new thread and thats what happened. A bit of maturity helps in this case, more so its better to keep you comments to yourself. There are people that are very knowledgeable and I was asking for some advise thats all. Next time I wont bother....its very childish I must say.

Id keep the stock 4.1's and get transfer gears to lower your lowrange 4.9 or 5.1 or 6.5

This also depends on how big your tyres really are.

1.6, stock gbox(will have different ratios to the auto), 6.5's and stock 3.7 diffs, exact measure 31.9" tyres, i was sitting in highrange on the sand, But everywhere else, im in lowrange

Closer to 40 to 1.

Don't forget all Maruti's have 1.0 litre gearing in the t/cases so I would suggest running 4.6 or 4.8 diff gears if running the Maruti t/case.

A Maruti WT t/case is not geared like a normal Sierra WT.

or you stick with the 4.1s

pick up 4.1 transfer gears

and end up with nicers low range of around 50:1

Don't forget it is a 4 speed auto too. don't need to gear them as low.
