Gday guys.
I'm thinking about getting a gme uhf radio. the tx3100. mainly because of its size has anyone tried fitting one into the ashtray hole on a jimny? according to the dimensions on the site it will just fit but I'm worried about the bracket that comes with the radio being too wide.
has anyone given it a go yet?
cheers

Photos in here somewhere, I actually mounted mine in the tray itself as I couldn't be bothered making a fascia panel up.

thanks for the replys guys,
Im thinking more of taking the whole ashtray out and attaching the radio to the metal tray that the ashtray slides into. Its not a show-stopper if i cant do it, I guess if i cant do it ill just mount it elsewhere but itd be nice to know i could if i wanted to.

for what its worth GME, Uniden etc actually sell fascia plates for single din applications, I also originally thought of mounting it without the tray but its like a cock in the grand canyon and the tray made the whole install real easy.

cheers monkey, thats my plan B actually ;) i like that spot also. I dont want to DIN mount it at all as i am looking at putting a dual din stereo with oziexplorer navigation software in the future.
and for now, i like the convenience of the din tray hole

when you say you were going to do the ashtray also, was it going to fit okay? as i can handle it being a pain in the ass to get in there.

fair enough, im gonna give it a crack then when i get one. im thinking if it doesnt mount well to the existing metal bracket/rails/thingy, i might just make a quick bracket up to suit

yeah i usually put the bungs for my air bed in there, but i think that a UHF radio is going to be a MUCH better use. i use the little pocket next to the handbrake for my pocket crud.
