GDay good people,
So I went to check out a 4wd comp out at janowen hills 4wd park on the weekend and did a little driving around also (no comp stuff for me). After an interesting drive up a rocky incline, turns out I smashed a hole through the top of my front left spring tower :cry:

So I have a question for someone in the know;
Whats can i do to fix it?
I can post some pics tomorrow but to explain, there is a hole right at the top where the shock absorber mounts to, this is now a big hole that allows the shock to move around freely (and make annoying clunk sounds as I limped the zook all the way back to the gold coast).

I did get told when I first bought the sierra that it had been seen before on coily's that the entire spring tower may remove itself from the chassis. So I would imagine there must be a few people out there unfortunate enough to have a solution for me :?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

It happens to all of them eventually. I have fixed quite a few now. Most guys are happy with a big, thick wasker welded to the top of the tower. But it depends on how big the break is on yours.

I'm happy to have a look/ repair it if you like.

North Brissy.

Yeah i was thinking perhaps chop the very top off the tower and weld a round plate to it. Sorry i havent posted pics yet (keep getting sidetracked) will try remember to do tonight.

My other idea was possibly remove the entire tower off the chassis and replace with a plate steel welded tower, more work but hopefully would be a stronger fix than just welding to the top of it. Thoughts?

If you are going to go to that much work, you'd want to ditch the tiny/short coilover thing and go to a separate coil and shock, then the radius arms will be the limiting factor.... etc etc etc.

They all break up there sooner or later. Weld a think washer in and call it good. Otherwise it turns into a huge fabrication job to re-engineer the bollocks up suzuki made of that front end.

As an aside, As nicely built as Sam's coiler was, it still had excessive roll stiffness and short arms (end result, limited travel and high roll stiffness) after all that work.

anyone got links or pics as to how others have either changed the front suspension altogether or fixed a similar break?

Jimny front mount. Shock/spring combo. Look in here http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... ht=stollie. Like everyone else has said..big washer welded to top

Did the big washer trick, welded up on the inside of the strut tower. We'll see how long it last :? If it breaks again might consider the separate coil and shock idea. Thanks guys.
