Was watching a show the other day about bikecar racing in the uk and they use bike engines eg haybusa std 172bhp anybody heard of this as a possible engine swap

Think about it more..
Gearbox? Transfer?

Easy, mount the bike motor so that the sprocket on the bike gearbox lines up with the Sierra transfer then replace the sprocket with a flange and run a custom tail shaft between the 2. Then gear reduction gears to suit.

Me and a mate where talking about it awhile ago. Thinking any sports bike motor over 600cc would make for a fun rig off road.

Prob gonna talk some shit here but I don't no the specs of a hybusa engine but I would image that it Wont have alot of low torque
Also would you rely on a motorbike clutch in a 4wd

Been done in the states.
The busa motor is expensive here due to supply/demand. Going rate is $4-$5k.

Other engines like the R1 would work in the same manner. You'd want to check how the weight of a sierra would affect performance. It's 4x the weight of a hyabusa.
The issues I see are in adapting the clutch cable, shifter mechanism, vacuum assist for brakes.

Anything is possible if you have a "can do" attitude.
But why?

And the cost of a hartley H1 donk is about $31k + freight.
Get your hand off it.
Might as well grab a spare rocket from NASA and fit that to the roof while you're at it.

Wardy: Do you believe that buggy with a g13a (factory sierra donk) correctly geared would drive that same spot?

How do you go backwards?

anyone here ridden a big bike? they are most unhappy at low revs and I dont see them being easy to get moving with another 1000kg to push

Didn't say it wasn't possible. Just not practical and busa's aren't exactly the weight of a zook.

yep

that buggy seems to have reverse in one of the other videos

I have a 2009 Hayabusa. On the road they have an awesome torque band, 60kmph in 6th gear, wrap on the throttle and it goes!

The Busa motor (08 on) has 154Nm torque compared with Sierra's engines somewhere between 74Nm and 110Nm depending on year.

A stock Busa is around 250kgs, a stock Sierra say 1000kgs+. It would certainly require revs to get the best output, but would sound fantastic!!

It would be an awesome excercise, but I would image very hard to register and cost way too much!

Post subject:  Re: mtorcycle engine option

I've a couple of mates that built Hyabusa Lotus 7 replicas. With gorgeous results.

Dramas to get past the emissions testing but doable after lots of trys.

Reverse can be done by lots of means but theres options of a small reversing box (giving you 6 speeds backwards) just like a transfer case with a conversion to a driveshaft out of the bike engines gearbox

Cons in a 4wd....

no flywheel and no low down torque.

the clutch has no feel when transferred to a foot operation so from a stop its slip the clutch a bit to get it roling and then dump the thing. Don't use clutch again for gearshifts (bikes have a dog box) ok in a road car crap offroad.

Engine parts are exxy, so exxy that after yet another blowup on so called low k jap engines a brand new Hyabusa was purchased brought home and its engine removed with the rest of the bike sold to the wreckers. Proved cheaper than a rebuild.

BTW anyone notice the rear diff?

Quick change speedway diff. 15mins and no oil change to change diff ratios, imagine a couple of those in a zook.

How do you get that past a roadworthy.

They are solid with no diff action at all.

Where'd you get 154Nm from, cos I've searched and everywhere says 130Nm.

Not only that, its at 7000rpm! You'd need ridiculous gearing just to run stock tyres on a Sierra with that sort of torque curve!

It would be awesome. Google the smart car with a busa engine, it's a weapon.

If you want a fast car, buy a fast car.
If you want a practical four wheel drive, buy a zook.

Try :-

http://www.hyp4r.com/hayabusa/specs_performance.htm

or

http://www.suzukicycles.org/GSX-R-serie ... busa.shtml

As a bike it pulls like a train compared to just about anything else from just about any rpm.
Max Nm is at 10,000rpm and exactly why I said it would need revs.

Agreed it would be a huge task, but again....awesome once in the 'band'.

I certainly wouldn't be calling this a bad torque curve! This a dyno chart for one with just an aftermarket muffler.

Image

And be honest, if you had one of these in a zook, you wouldn't be spending much time at low revs would you?

Post subject:  Re: mtorcycle engine option

Ben_Sierra what the hell do you base your assumptions on?? The internet?

Going from the dynochart that sideways posted up, busa engine absolutely pisses all over a G13a/ba in torque everywhere in its rev range!!

To put it into perspective the G13ba's peak power is around ~50Kw (67Hp) at 6500RPM and peak torque of ~75ft-lbs @ ~4000RPM. Now look at the busa dyno chart. 80% of the G13ba's peak torque (60ft-lbs) at any anywhere on the rev range. At 4000RPM the busa is already above the stock G13 figure and continues to rise until ~7000RPM!

Even the power curve of the busa is wayyy better than the G13 at lower RPM's. The busa is on par with the maximum output of the G13 nearly 2000RPMs less.

So again please explain your assumption? You have an engine that has a nice, flat, broad torque curve that kills the G13 anywhere in the rev range. You have more overall power anywhere in the rev range than the G13 and you have nearly double the amount of usable revs.

Sorry I'm an engineer but I base my conclusions on actual data and figures.

i agree dan, but that sorta power and the way it would pick up through those revs, isnt it going to be really hard to control in a zook which is what were are talking about
