Hiya,

I'm replacing a leaky valve core and bought some news ones.

What the difference between short and long valve cores? One person told me they are interchangeable but the another said the long cores are for the long stems and the short cores for the short stems.

The long core seems to be very different from the short core in that the spring doesn't operate like in the short core.

Are they interchangeable?

Thanks,

Always use the short ones if possible as the spring on the long ones can get full of crap and leak. Who ever told you about them suiting different valve bodies was pulling your leg.

There are three different types you can get

two short one and one long. They are all made to one international specification and are all completly interchanable. Some very small chrome valve stems can only take the short valve stems though. (Very rare)

13 years in the tyre game and I can tell you that a short one ( not the one you have) caused the most problems. then the long one cause as Greg said the spring gets full of crap.

these type of short ones I threw straight in the bin every time I got one. They are shit cause the spring is exposed to the dirt and crap OUTSIDE the pressure area. 8 out of ten leaky valve cores were these type.

then long ones like this are okay if you dont have anything else but I would be swapping them for short ones if you could.

I only ever use these type myself. Cause every time you use them the air blows over the spring and cleans them. also since the spring is inside them its protected from the crap.

Maybe....

On ebay they came in packs of 50 and I really didn't need that many. Plus I was in a hurry.
