Been battling a problem for the last two weeks.
When i turn on the headlights it kills the stop light fuse and the interior lights don't work (or the dashlights either) It also kills the digital dash clock, which resets when i turn off the headlights

When in this 'mode' the highbeem light stays on even knowing its on low beam or when i use the brakes it flashes the highbeam light.

Last week tried replacing the indicator stalk cluster AND the instrument cluster. Found a dead earth (ripped out) going from the chassis to the body. I soldered it back on and it appeared to all be working perfectly whilst stationary, even if i used my old original indicator and instrument clusters. Put it all back into its place. Started the car and it lasted half a block before blowing again.

Have since double checked the rear earth, replaced the earth from the battery to the car body (actually added a 2nd wire) Still blowing fuses and depriving me of stoplights, interior light and dashlights.

All other electrics appear working fine (radio, lighter, fan, heater, reverse and indicators etc)

X3 I had the exact systems you described. Turned out it was because of a cracked tail light cover. Water and moisture diddled the connection on the contacts for the tail light globe. Changed globe and solved problem for the short term. It reoccured so I replaced the whole assembly. All good now.

funny enough i have had a smashed in rear bar for 2 +yrs now... never a problem. Finally got round to changing it last month... used the old assembly
Also replaced one globe.

will dig out a spare set and see if it fixes it in the morning :)

While i'm at it i'll look into waterproofing the sucker

Try cleaning the socket out and seeing if it is the issue.

Grrrr!
Today i was cleaning out the garage and decided to test a headlight bulb that was on the shelf.
It worked then stopped working, i flashed the highbeam and it worked.
Put old bulb in still no low beam. I now have no low beam. Checked fuses and dash lights are working..

any ideas?

*sigh*
