G'day. Took my Sierra into town today. First drive after replacing clutch and gear box oil but now there is a grinding/ticking noise when I push the clutch in and let it out again. Any suggestions on what it may be? Thanks. Jackson. |

Did you change the throw out bearing and pilot bearing, If its not that Im guessing your clutch might be to close to the pressure plate and not fully disengaging properly |

did u align the clutch with a clutch aligning tool? is the clutch HD? what brand is it? Have you adjusted your clutch cable? Usually when you change your clutch it is a good idea to change the clutch cable too. |

Probably. Excedy clutch. Not hd. Used made up tool. I adjusted the cable. Probably could adjust it more or something. |

So how much should it be adjusted up? Should there be free play or not? |

If it makes a bearing noise when you press the clutch in and it goes away when you let it out dont worry about it till youve been driving it a little while, sometimes the new bearings makes some noise till it gets used to what its doing cable adjsutment needs to be so there is some freeplay on the arm at the box, at least a few mm but more if it makes the pedal take up in the right spot for you You dont need a new cable with a clutch nor does it matter if you used an old paddlepop stick to align it, that only to make the box slide it |

Cheers Royce. I wasn't sure if there was a 'bed in' period or not. But yeah the car hasn't been driven for god knows how long so stuff is rough as at the moment. |

Listened to it intently on the way home definitely sounds like a little bearing rattle or something only happens at higher speeds (although it is not certain gears tried changing from 2nd to 3rd earlier and it didn't make a noise) and when changing down gears it sounds like an engine braking truck. Also it will make the noise when I take my foot off the throttle and also when I put it back on however it does not make the sound upon accelerating or decelerating. Thanks for all the help so far. |

Is it possible you have a stuck front hub or you knocked it into 4 wheel high ,and it is your front driveshaft making the noise? It sounds to me , a lot like loose splines on a driveshaft. Just the way you explained it is exactly how I would describe the sound I had when mine wore loose from too much lift and not enough shaft |

It's not in 4H, if one hub was in the front drive shaft would turn when the car moves? Will go check that out. |

Nah front drive shaft isn't spinning when I take off. It sounds like it is coming from that area of the car but (clutch/front drive shaft). |

i might be able to take a sqwiz if you like mate, does it vibrate? Like ruined UNI's? And just double check there is enough oil in there/no metal filings when you drain it to check.... And that all the bolts have been done up properly, including the little gbox cover below it. |

That'd be awsome, but the zook is in Taree, thanks for the offer mate. Nah no vibrations, I thought unis would be more of a clunk-clunk but this is definitely more of a scratching/rooted bearing noise or something. Will go over all the bolts in the morning. |

Had a little drive has some serious vibration at the end of second and beginning of third. Also the hand brake drum is getting luke warm after say 10 minute drive. |
