I have OME struts and springs on a 92 SWB Vit. I am on my 2nd set of front struts (replaced under warranty) These now also seem to be crapping out. Has any one else had problems with OME shocks?.

Mine seemed to last about 40000km which is about normal for generic replacement shocks you might fit to your corolla

Not what you might expect from a company that keeps going on about how good their stuff is, maybe one day they might read how much people hate their gear now and do something about it

The replacement units have done about 1000 k's but mainly off road. You are correct, they say they have the best stuff around, and we are after all using our trucks for off roading. I would expect them to last a wee bit longer.

If its any concilation, my 8 month old Koni adjustable struts are shot. Just remember the golden rule. You don't get what you pay for.

How are they failing? My suggestion is to call Head Office in Victoria, from what have I heard there have been a number of issues with the Vitara struts lately.

ive also been having problems with OME..
I went through 2 sets brand new ones and gave up trying to get it covered again under warranty.
How have yours broken? do they make grinding noises going up curbs or something? can u grab them and wiggle them sideways?
Ive just fitted a new pair of Dobinsons to mine i will see how they go..

They just go spongy. When you push down on one side of the front and let it go it will come up but not stop on the first bounce. This is the first test usually done for shot shocks. They are also giving a very soft ride with a wollowing effect.

When I took the first set back the shop I got them from said that the NZ importer was a pain to deal with and may be reluctant to replace. Being the 2nd time around, I may have problems.

2 sets of OME in the bin and now with Dobinson struts and they have out lasted both OME sets and still going. The OME loose their oil and then flog out. Dobinson struts are also half the price.

40000KMS!

Struts should last 120,000KMs as a rule. Lets say you only ever drive off-road, I'd expect 60,000KMs.

Very worrying since I just bought some OME for my jimny.

I've joined the OME fail list, too.
Left strut working perfectly, but right has no resistance to up travel,
but still ok on down stroke. Has a small bit of side slop, too.
No idea how old/used they are, as they were fitted already.

Not decided on replacements yet.
Only found dobinsons and OME in +40mm.
And some
+20mm from Bits4Vits

Well, I've lowered a few cars in my time, and they were all fine, stock shocks with lowered springs. On the same principle I would have no qualms over matching 50mm longer travel shocks with 40mm raised springs. There are more shocks for use with 50mm raised springs on the market.

don't forget Ironman, there's are 40mm longer too. I had a set flog out within a few months, there replacement warranty was awesome though. the guys at brendale were more than happy to fix it up on the spot too. even though i installed them, they removed and refitted the new struts. the old ones were making a vibrating noise.

Seems like there is a quality control issue with all strut makers.

Will be sticking to +40mm struts, as car balance,
travel and set up is all made to suit.

Shansh, I emailed dobinsons and he replied back with the part # GS57-620
And the two stockists, Big-O4x4 and Fourplay4x4. Both of which are on your side of the city, shithouse for me down south but i went with Fourplay4x4 and they ordered them in for me and they were there the next week.

you can allso go stock with strut extentions ($90) or strut top flip ($15). not what i'd do but throughing the idea out there.

They will get worked hard, off road, touring and as a daily driver.
So they will get a good test.
Can't really comment on my OME because I don't know its age or history.
But my Sierra OME served me faultlessly for 12 years,
and is now fitted on another zook.
Having lent a hand on fitting a p[air to a club members rig,
they look the right stuff, and travel etc.
Time will tell.
On my meagre income I can't take the gamble on getting OME this time.

I paid $145 each for mine, Buzbox got his slightly cheaper as he picked them up directly from dobinson.
