Hi guys, i am wondering about some mods to get more power out of my zook. I want to run larger tyres on it but also have more accelleration and top speed on the road. Is there a fuel injected engine that will virtually bolt straight in? or a larger carby, turbo, forced air, or something? thanks in advance |

Easiest swap is the g16b efi version, needs efi tank (or lift pump surge tank arrangement) efi harness (duh). But honestly im pretty happy with my carby vit with extractors, even though its got the auto 4.6s and 30s on it (just need to get motivated to fit the 5.12s). Anything bigger then 30s transfer gears would be the go. But I have no issues with top speed or acceleration, sure its not the most nippy thing but its not an embarrassment |

Best to start off with extractors and a decent exhaust. You may be suprised on how much better it will go once that's done. If you really wanted to you can then change the camshaft to an aftermarket cam. The more expensive option is to install the G16B, but to be honest by the time you change everything you need to get it up and running you would be better just to buy an EFI Vit. As for turbo option, any draw through carby turbo setup arn't the best of design. On an efi engine it would be a better option but it does has equal downsides to upsides. |

Keeping the engine n/a there is only big mods for small gain you can do. At the moment I have had my engine bored 40" over, new pistons, rings, exhaust and inlet valves, new valve seats and all new genuine seals and bearings replaced. As far as a little more performance goes I have bored 40" over and my cam is currently at CROW getting a regrind for longer duration and higher lift. The cam will reap the best results and I will be sure to confirm the results when I fit the engine. |

I have also done the easy stuff first- extractors, 2 1/2" Cat, 2 1/4 exhaust out to a sports muffler. I have also swapped the stock ignition coil for a MSD Blaster. Get yourself a complete exhaust system and you will notice the biggest gains as far as torque and off throttle response goes. After this is done and you still got the need for sub sonic Suzuki smokin speed, it's time to pull the head and look at porting, valves, valve springs and a new cam or regrind. |

I have just got custom extractors made and a 2 1/4 inch exhaust with triflow muffler, and its going back to have a high flow diesel cat hopefully tomorrow, but it seems to have lag as i take off, even back with the stock rims and tyres back on it. Timing is spot on 0 degrees, so after the cat is installed if theres still an issue ill get the fuel/air mixture checked. Is it possible to swap the head over to an EFI head? |

Timing is at 0 degrees? Did you check this with a timing light? If so here's the first problem to fix. Your base timing at idle~850rpm is 8* BTDC. |

ah ok, i thought the timing had to be up a bit but a mate was adamant that it was meant to be on zero....set timing at 8 degrees and all of a sudden i have more power again. cat is being installed in the morning, and ill see how it goes from there |

lol thanks jester. Ill see how i go with the cat on it tomorrow, and picking up a set of 15 x 7 rims with 30 x 7 tyres on saturday. Then to go and get bogged....will be interesting to see how capable it is with a bit more height and meat on the tyres. |
