hey guys got a 92 swb sierra currently has 2 inch body lift and 2 inch susp lift with 31s. been looking at this 3/4 elliptical rear setup on a few forums and just wondering why it isnt used as often as i would ov thought. seems like a good idea to get a bit extra flex and was thinking of giving it a go. any one have any opinions on this setup?

mostly cos its illegal, like, noticably so... MrRocky on here had a 3/4 rear which worked really well and was predicatable, i saw it in action a fair few times and it went great. He'd designed his with a pin to keep the top leaf pinned to the chassis for road use so it wouldnt flop around.

It can inherit a "pig rooting" type of action on steep uphill climbs. I know gwagonsteve has built buggies like this, and mentioned this. Your fuel filler will also be in the way....
I'm hoping to build this soonish

Its a pretty easy and cheap way of getting rear flex. And as far as im concerned, from behind on road it looks stock. Axel wrap is something to consider, you will want heavy rear springs and possibly a traction bar. This will come down to tyre size, gearing and so on. With small tyres and stock gearing, a heavy set of springs work well.
One thing to think about, how are you going to get the front operating to match the rear? Gwagensteve had a good post about this awhile ago, mite be worth checking out...

Just remember,
it is harder to achieve on a WT Sierra,
because springs are out side of chassis,
whereas NT springs are in line with chassis

NT would be the ducks nuts to do a 3/4 on... Cut the chassis mount off, two square U bolts and some form of locking notch around the u bolt area and your done.. Under an hour a side...

i used a bit of angle on my w/t
made it piss easy set it up and did the whole thing on the bench and
welded it on in 5 mins, moving the fuel tank though took a little longer.
i had mine pinned for road use so it wasnt noticeable, i also inverted the shocks to make the most out of the extra travel.
if i did it again i would use a longer leaf

Would this work with a nt. With WT diffs so that it is still on narrow track spacing. Then inboard the springs to gain awesome flex. Then almost the only way to get the front to match would be to use lifted rears in a RUF setup. Does this sounds okay? Or is there something im missing?

please keep in mind that this idear is just in my head, i havent sat down and thought out the technicalitys.
but i will be looking into a way of making this a bolt on of sort of deal. to maintain legality (reduce un wanted attention). basicaly i wanna use a sierra front spring on the top. and 4wd trailer shackles on the back.
there V shaped and have 3 pins in them. middle pin goes to were the normal shackle would mount to the chasis, bottom pin goes to the bottom spring, top pin goes to the top spring. round town center pin stays in. hit the dirt. pull the two center pins and away you go. only problem i can see so far is that the top spring will need to be shorter than the bottom spring.
MIGHT even be able to get it engineered this way????
also i know a guy ...LOL
who has invented an air oporated, cab controlled sway bar detachera.
but he is a bit of a nutter and wont market/ share his thing with anyone else. very very clever guy but. trying to get the plans for it, but not having much success.

Remember what I said about thinking more and speaking less?
A) the retaining pin idea has already been covered by mr rocky
B) the original rear spring hanger where the shackle attaches to the chassis is removed

ssisera, i think your making a simple idea far to complicated... From behind even without mud flaps and a rear bar to hide everything its not possible to notice its there on mine.. The top spring should sit flat until you flex it..
Also what the fuck does a "air oporated, cab controlled sway bar detachera." have to do with anything? and I doubt your mate invented it since its an item that has been available for some time Maybe listen to peoples advise when they say speak less.. Or are you not capable of going 5 minutes without posting utter dribble and annoying the piss out of every cunt on here?

not talking about a retaining pin im talking about a fully removabel top half. by using a shorter top spring rather than a longer one, should be able to keep the spring hanger. boostedbrick wrote: ssisera, i think your making a simple idea far to complicated... You just don't get it do you...
Any non-approved modifications to suspension are illegal. Just because you put a pin in there doesn't mean diddly-squat when it comes to legalities and insurance.

Ugh dude seriously...........
3/4 elliptical is the last thing you need to do on your vehicle, just drop it and chill.
Hey boosted, MrRocky
Both you guys don't run track bars? How much axle hop do you get when the rear is flexed out and underload?

and unless you have the time to play around with it, it wont perform as well as it should, ours is pretty poor
