I'm stuck guys. Trying to get my gearbox out. But having trouble with one bolt siezed in the bellhousing. It's one of the two at the top. On the drivers side. We have tried breaker bars, breaker bars and uni joints, rattle guns. The thing just will not budge at all. The bolt has started to strip so can't try anymore. We have soaked it in degreaser and still nothing. Any tips? Can't get the oxy or anything up there. |

Haven't tried the big one yet. Gotta find a way to get it in there. Worried it'll snap. It's a big belt driven one. I'm doing it in a mates shed. He has every tool imaginable. If it helps Im doing it on a hoist |

If you haven't tried already a little heat can work wonders. If heat doesn't work and it's siezed/rusted in. Try a freezing compound like Rost Off Ice. |

Also a wack on the head of the bolt can also free up rusty, seized shit. |

maybe try giving it just a small turn tighter if you are able to, i know it sounds nuts but in the turbines when we have a really stubborn bolt sometimes that helps to "break" it then it comes undone |

Tryed an breaker bar with a pole on the end of it, and hitting it with a hammer at the same time |

As good as all these suggestions are, they don't work real well in the tight spot that this bolt is in. I would suggest a long extension with impact uni and a decent 1/2 inch rattle gun. Undo till it stops, spray penetrating oil on the bolt then do back up. Keep repeating this till it works it's way out. Don't get too impatient when undoing or you'll bust it off. |

Finally got it guys. One single bolt took 4hours to undo. To show how stubborn this bolt was..... * tried a breaker bar *tried hitting it *tried tightening it *tried 3 different rattle guns - with unis extension bars * lowered the gear box to get a better angle *oxy torch * soaked in wd-40 overnight None of these even budged it.....but what did was we put a spanner on the bolt and used a 8tonne bottle jack to jack the spanner in anti-clock wise. At first it was lifting the engine up Got two blokes to pull downward on the box and the loudest bang happened. O thought for sure we broke the spanner but to my suprise it was the bolt. There wasn't any form of loctite on the bolt at all. Do not have an idea how that one bolt was so tight and the rest were easy. Clutch is all in and running great. (Apart from the new exhaust leak...sounds like a fart box) |
