Ok i agreed to help luke do a 110amp falcon conversion and i have had a bit to do with it, but it has issues (as most things do when you only do half of the job)

Ok so basically he had to change to g13ba pullys, cam and crank pulleys and cam belt to suit the multi rib belt for the alt..

some things to note, luke did not have to undo the ajuster to get the cam belt off, (read FUCKING loose)
the g13a has always been very gutless

also the crank pully nearly fell off apparently. (once big bolt was undone)
what i have done, started with the motor stripped off, put the new cam belt pullys on, timed it up (all timing marks up line up with mark on block and cam belt cover plate thing) spun her over twice with ratchet and checked marks (all good) and luke put the rest together.

issue is, it wont go... tried to start off the key and it felt like a flat battery, realy struggling when motor comes round onto compression. we tried to tow start it with no luck. it kind of fired but would not start or make any power... unfortunatly i had to go then, and due to other things i have not got back there to finish the job. but luke has had another look and no luck..

what i am thinking is the cam timing had jumped a tooth or 2 in the past (caused buy loose belt) and some one had adjusted ign timing to suit (would explain why it was slow and made sfa power), now that i have set cam timing correct the ign timing is 10' or so to advanced making the motor pre fire and try to turn over backwoods.

this is THE only explanation i can think of. in theory the pulleys should be identical just with a different belt tooth (one is round one is square) and different bolt holes in crank pulley. so it should be a simple swap and go (i know this as i have done it before, g13a into a coiler)

any other ideas? i am going over on wed and would very much like to get this all done for him..

Phil

yeah. but all timing marks straight up = correct.

the carbi is also leaking fuel. but thats another issue.

bring it up on tdc pull dizzy cap off check the reluctor is near the sensor. if it aint good chance like you said cam timing has been out so someone has turned the dizzy a tooth.

sorry that is if they run teeth on the dizzy? never played with one of them, either way definatly sounds like timing

cam pulley has 2 slots it can go on, you have the wrong one I reckon

by reading the post I dont think they had it off, if its anything like an f10a that second slot would be very close to driving valves into pistons. I dunno just a thought.

g13a is q free spin motor. I was very conserned when he said that he pulled the cam belt off easy without undoing the tentioner tho.

On my Sierra cam lining marks had to point to each other, not both straight up, worth checking

Did you miss the point where he said they changed the cam and crank pulleys for G13BA ones?

There are 2 different types of timing belt pulley that use differnt belts and different amount of bolts to hold the bottom drive belt pulley on so you need to swap it all to G13BA cam pulleys to fit a multirib bottom drive pulley to fit the alternator with a multirib belt

The cam pulley has 2 possible locations, marked with I and E, mix it up and it throws the cam timing enough to make it think it will start but wont

Assuming its not all out all over the place, dont put any thought into the loose belt, I have pulled off and refited heaps of belts still at tension

if its out 180 it will backfire

you also cant get 180 out unless you have removed the dizzy or leads, wish people would stop offering that and bad earths up as a solution without asking if things have been done for it to be even possible

Post subject:  Re: zook95s issue

it can run 180.
Did it two weekends ago.

EDIT: not well mind you. and phil doesnt seem to know exactly what was done before he got there. from the description it sounds like its out 180 thats all.
