tools needed. 2x 14mm spanners 1x big fuck off hammer a couple of sockets to use as a drift. borrowed sockets are best. a longish drift. 3/8 socket extension will do. internal c-clip pliers. small length of pipe with a ID larger then the uni caps large vise. pull the tail shaft out of car and stick it in a vise like this. remove c-clips, stick the pipe over the uni cap and flog the piss out of it
when the cap sticks up a bit flip it over and flog the opposite cap.
keep flogging opposite caps until one pops off.
then put the pins in the vise and with out hitting the caps bash the yoke down until the uni falls out.
ready for reassembly
will finish after smoko. |

note to self:
never loan tools to Shep Actually- thinking about it- my sockets/ extensions etc would probably last longer if left to Sheps tender mercies |

remove 2 caps from new uni and insert into yoke
stick uni into cap and then tap the yoke onto the cap. stop often and make sure that none of the rollers have dropped out
tap the second cap into the yoke making sure it still moves smoothly.
tap the caps in past the c-clip groove with a socket on the bottom.
remove the last two caps and stick one in the other yoke and gently tap it home remembering to check that the uni moves smoothly and isn't binding.
tap the second cap on.
stick the socket under the cap and tap it past the c-clip groove.
camera died so no more photos stick the c-clips in there home and tap the caps into the right position when the uni is assembled ensure that it moves smoothly and freely, if not then rest the yoke on a vice and tap with a hammer. refit tailshaft and do burnouts. |

There is an even easyer way than using a drift to belt the caps out. I will post later on tonight. |

Yep, cut a 25mm long length of the large pipe. Place yoke in vice with large ID pipe on one side and socket (smaller the 24mm OD) pressing up against Uni on opposite side. Slowly tighten vice and Uni Cap will be pressed out. Undo vice and flip yoke over to do other cap, but make sure that socket used this time is smaller than bearing surface of uni, or else you will press socket permanently onto Uni. |

Or use a big fuck off copper hammer and belt it a few times and it's out. I can do a uni twice as fast with the hammer as can be done with a vise or press |

He is, How is using a copper hammer rough? Works fine if you know what you are doing. You have more chance of doing damage with a press or a vise. |
