Righto. I've just had my transfer case rebuilt with reduced ratio set at a local workshop dealing with Suzukis and it now sounds like all the gears are straight cut. Very noisy. The gears are 5.14 just purchased through Low Range Offroad. Are they normally very noisy or is this reason for concern? |

But only in low range. Should have no sound in high range. |

I have a nice gear whine in high...more noticeable around 40+ km/h |

my 5.14s sound like my low range used to standard... low range sounds like a turbine under the body =P its a definite whine, but its not super loud. |

They will wear in and should quiet down after 1000kms. Change the oil at 1000kms too. |

A quick change of the subject. While Low Range are usually pretty good on price, TRAIL TOUGH are currently having a sale on Transfer Gearsets that are very well priced, even with the exchange rate coming off it's recent high. |

My gears (6.5:1 Rockhoppers) were a bit noisy when first installed. It took maybe 500km or a bit more and they quietened down. It's about this point I reckon you should change your gear oil. |

The 5:xx cases should not be too noisy in high range after they are bedded in. The 6:5's are notoriously bad, but the 5:xx gearsets are usually pretty quiet. FWIW FZ is right about the 1000Km oil change that; a definite need to do maintenance item. |

mmm mines never quietened down... lol - its not gotten any louder though either... even with regular oil changes etc. i've been asked before driving on the highway (over the radio) if i was running a turbo or supercharger cos they could hear the gears whining! lol |

Did ya do new bearing with the install, or just stuff 'em in? sometimes the input bearign on the transmission sounds like a t-case. Course the input bearigns on the t-case whine when they get old too. |

My 6.5's whine like fuck at 100+ km/h haha. Higher gears in low range sound like the apocalypse is coming |

maybe we should all make an in-car video so we can compare noise... and also make a common noise in the car to compare that cos all cameras will be different... ie: turn on hazard lights to hear the clicking or something. |

My 6.5's are the same. My dog won't even go in the car now, shit scared of the noise. |

skyman wrote: High-way Star, what are your RPM's like at cruise speed?
About 3700rpm according to my speedo and tacho at 100km/h (around 60m/h for you Skyman). Gets to up around 4000rpm at 110km/h (~70m/h). The 3.7's were better at 110km/h as I think my G16 starts to come off its peak torque area at around 4000, plus its just starting to rev excessively for that motor. At 100 I still prefer the 3.9's though, mainly because there is almost never a need to change it back to 4th at that speed. Edit what heppened to this thread? |

They gave it back empty. I installed it, filled it, then drove it. |
