Ok guys, I'm in the process of cleaning up Tara. She's starting to look ratty.
First on the books was door sills. Mine are dented and hideous.
I know I will dent them again. Rocksliders have been on the top of my list for a while. Just been broke

Reading Rickstrs thread today, I came across the thought of cutting my sills out. However, I want my car to look really tidy and not just comp car. (I'll need to see better pics of his cut to see if it would suit my idea of 'clean')

I also though about getting some tread plate rolled into the shape of the sill and welding it on there. It would have to be Atleast 4mm? Thick.

Is this possible? Anyone done it? What other options are there?

Been a sierra, my sills were allot easier to do. But in theory its the same thing... With some patience and time spent shaping it could look stock. I just slapped some 100x100 in there... Also means I don't need sliders hanging low..

Looks alright on square cars. What did you mount it too? or did you just weld it onto the cab?

Welded.. Guess you could bolt and bog it in, not going to be very strong.. As I said, with some time spent shaping it you could make it look stock... Cut some pipe down its length and stick it on...

mate as you would of noticed in his thread im also keen as mine are looking like a piece of scrunched up paper lol.

besides cutting them out, the only option would be to build around them. but if they look bad and you want to try hide them then thats going to be a bit hard.
i have tried to search on some US site but couldnt see anything.

any pics on how bad they are?? (just saw other thread, try bring them over to this thread, it has more life)

Yours are worse then mine are shandy just lately feel like I'm letting it get to the point of no return. I want to stay on top of everything. Haha

Sorry about the size. Don't know how to resize them.

Thinking the most ideal way would be to mould some thick plate around the sill. That would be better then low clearance sliders.

ahaha i dont know if thats a complement or an insult lol. i think im almost certainly going to go for a sill chop, my doors are getting hard to close and dont close all the way due to the lip being pushed up. so ill have to hit it down once i cut the bottom off.

but ill keep watching this to see what other ideas come up.

i reckon cut the sill out and put a capped bit of thick walled pipe in place with some bracing back along the body... the pipe should spread the load along the length of the sill. realistically you dont really land on the sliders with all the car's weight, you just lean and graze them usually, so they don't need to be crazy stong, just stronger than the tinfoil body =)

A certain company should design a replacement sill. Simple cut and.weld.

I wanna come up with a way to blend it in to make it look neat

thats why i think a pipe rather than box section... you should be able to blend it in pretty easy - the standard sills have a big half pipe kinda bend in them anyway, so you'd be replacing that. If you painted it the same colour are the body it'd look factory.

looks like there is a full length section of 90* angle welded back into the body & then the slider sits up in that gap mounting to the chassis.

yeah sounds about right, altho you prob dont need the 90* angle. you could prob use 5-7mm plate alone then the slider over it.

mine was 75x125 (i think) welded to the chassis, more pic's in my build.

Sorry for not getting back to you yet, trying to get another pic so you can see it better.it was c channel, face downand then the edge was cut off to match the body line.

^^ thats exactly what i was trying to say to do =) except where it meets the body on the inside, it has a flat section making contact not just the edge of the steel.

ahah its both, im just trying to build my character describing vocabulary

That's OK, I will still speak to you

Apart from them being free with the car,
I also like the sliders not connected to chassis.
My thinking is, chassis and body move independantly, more so with a BL.
Which may cause stress fractures over time .
So a chassis mounted one needs to be chassis only,
which a lot are.
Nothing hanging down to get hooked up on is a bonus, too.
Again chassis mounteds can be made so they dont hang up.

But mostly mine were free

yeah, if mine were on my car when i got it then yes i guess i would learn to love them. but since there are not, i dont.

i like the look of big tube sliders but there are not functional here, especially with a vit being low already.
