After having read on here countless times that "215/75 muddies will fit a stock Jimny without scrubbing" I took my fresh tirerack.com rubber straight down to be fitted this morning... FAIL. The later model front bar leaves zero clearance. The stock 205's have gone back on for now, and the muddies will have to wait for the lift kit to arrive. |

Thinking I might trim the front bar until the JML Jimny bar is finished... |

These were scrubbing driving straight ahead in the car park. Steering was worserer. |

From the pic your front bar/bumper looks slightly bent back towards the tire... |

Yep, I see that too. That jimny has had a light bump. The front "bumper" is nothing of the sort. Its a plastic piec of skin with two or three skinny metal hangers and a handful of plastic clips holidng it in place and in shape. Yank it forward a bit and you should get the clearance you need. |

I might pull the bar this afternoon and see if I can find a bit of clearance... all else fails I might get the jigsaw out... |

There's nothing to grind. Its all plastic and rubber. Jimny bumpers are comedy. If any one hits you in a jimny they are slamming straight into the chassis, there's no protection offered by the bumpers front or rear. 45tr0, if you lie on your back under the front and start to remove the plastic popper clips holding the bottom edge of the bumper on you'll see the metal hangers. The are probably just a bit bent, it would only take a very light bump to bend them. You should be able to twist the forward a bit and straighten it all out again. Its easy buddy, just need a flat head screw driver to pick the plastic fasterners and then maybe a couple of spanners, I can't remember exactly. I took my bumper off about two weeks ago, same one 2005 + spec jimny. I had 215/75/15 muddies on too, trust me they should have clearance on road, not much but just enough. EDIT: You might not need to undo any of the plastic fasteners actually, I can't remember exactly but you can probably see the metal hangers without undoing anything. |

cut the bumper, you could probably do it with scissors. |

Except he is waiting on a bar anyways. Either try and bend it good again or leave it until the barwork turns up IMO. |

I agree a new bar will improve clearance, but taking into account the stock bumper, how much lift do you think you would need to "fix" that clearance problem without cutting? 6 inches? 8 inches? The guard is narrower at the bottom that at the mid point, where ride height is normally. Adding lift will actually make fitment worse until the centreline of the tyre is below the bumper. Steve. |
