OK, so I am putting a new timing belt on the 1600. The cam has moved in relation to the crank so I know I have to set the timing, but I haven't done that on a 16v before. BUT it shouldn't be any different AFAIK. So this should work...? 1. set number 1 cylinder to TDC 2. Rotate crank so no. 1 inlet valve is just about to open AND dizzy is pointing to approx no.1 sark plug lead. TIA |

if you have an 'E' mark on your cam pulley line this up with the notch in the rocker cover. |

the hole in line with the 'E' mark goes on the cam spigot. the other mark is for when these pulleys are used in twin cam heads. |

OK, so I had a look at this last night and what Joe said made sense. I hope it's right! First I lined up the 'E' slot on the cam pulley with the spigot on the end of the camshaft
Then lined up the 'E' on the pulley with the mark on the head
Then made sure the crank had no.1 at TDC
So is that right? |

I think you have the wrong E mark, the keyway should point down |

There are2 slot in the cam pulley, one you can see and one is pointing down. Unless you are talking about the crank pulley? |

lol looked again, yes thats right make sure you turn the engine over by hand a few full cycles and recheck the timing and tension to make sure you didnt have any slack in the right hand side of the belt |

TIA No issue with this way of setting it up, tho both valves should be fully closed ie slight clearance in the lifters on both sides. From that you should also be able to solve which slot the cam pulley should go. |
