Hey so i recently changed over my stock suspension to an OME 40mm setup and noticed that when i hit about 60kph the steering wobbles quite badly. Hoping its something simple like allignment, camber, balance etc. any ideas?

Theres alot of different factors to take into account. Most people i have talked to and have fixed this problem all fixed it by doing different things. Myne was fixed by getting new tyres and a wheel alignment and Balance. There are alot of threads on this site about this problem. Go to the search function and type jimny death wobble, steering wobble etc and you will find alot of information about it!  Hope that helps!

yeh been having a look. just a bit lost seeing as im not runnin any bigger tyres and it started as soon as i put the suspension in. Id imagine that raising the car would alter the allignment?

I had to get the 3 degree caster.
When I had the suspension installed the car shook like mad as soon as I hit about 60.
I got the 3 degree caster installed and it fixed it.

Yeah after putting in your suspension you realy do need to do a wheel allignment.. See how it goes after that

oh geese not this age old bloody mystery again. just hit the search bar and you'll find a fair few posts about it with all soughts of solutions.
just remember a steering dampner is no cure

The only alignment spec you have changed is the caster. It's now out of spec.
Correct the caster.
PS ever had a shopping trolley with a wheel that flutters uncontrollably? That's what happens when the caster comes out of spec.

was the alignment done corectley? did they put the wrong caster bolts in? might wanna look into it
40mm lift shoundn't affect the caster what so ever, but I could be wrong as mubby said, could be a few items. I only know this from my jimny 40mm ome lift

Now raise the chassis attachment point (where the big blue arrow tip is) 40mm - now just exactly what will happen to the caster?
More lift=less caster=death wobbles.

PS yes, the picture is from a late 1970's ford, but the principle is the same with the jimny.

yeh definitely seems to be the castor. Does this mean i will need 2 get the castor correction bushes or is this something a simple alignment and balance can solve?

Yes definaty get caster correction bushes installed and set correctly for the 40mm lift.

lots of talk about this, and everyone I have seen with the 40mm OME kit needs to 2.5" - 3" castor correction bushes, they never had the problem them boom as soon and ome in they get the wobbles.
I would say spend your money on those before anything else. and invest in a steering damper if u dont have one already.
I have done the whole hub assembly upgrades and fixes and wheel alignment and still get them slightly, so its definalty the castor on mine now.

100% correct.
Was perfect before OME ...afterwards thought I'd die.
Caster correction and steering dampener and perfect again.

P.S. it's the king pin adjustment, steering dampener will help to..
