The vits finally finished. But somewhere between running it last month, and now, ive managed to pick up a serious cough and splutter at idle.

It came good with a few throttle opening with the car not running. Now its back again.
Im guessing its got something to do with shitty old fuel playing havoc with the injectors. As at idle im guessing there should be a fine mist in the carby, but it just seems to drop in fuel when ever it pleases.

i know there is injector cleaner stuff you can put into your fuel. Other than a bottle of that a good thrashing is there any other tricks i can try to clear out the injectors?

And no, throwing the webber out isnt really a solution :roll:

First things first. You don't have injectors- you run a carb, you have jets.

I'm guessing the dripping is coming from the primary jet? Dripping onto the butterfly plate?

This is a symptom of a blocked idle jet. This can be cured without the removal of the carb.

Plenty of fix ya bastard methods like:

Rev engine to 4000rpm and smother the intake(top of carb) with a rag and let it bog down whilst holding the throttle open. This is good at pulling shit stuck in idle circuit through.

Or do the ole lead switch and backfire method. Others can fill you in on this as I havent done it myself.

Obviously some debris has entered the fuel system. Replacing the fuel filter before doing this can ensure it doesn't happen again.....for a while.

Injector cleaner is more so used for ridding fuel residues and tarnish in pinhole sized outlets of injectors. The junk in your idle circuit will laugh at injector cleaner.

It will not hurt adding a bottle to your tank and "may" help with fuel consumption. I'm guessing thats what it says on the back of the bottle lol.

When it comes to carbs, if its dirty you pull it down and clean the shit out of it with compressed air and carb cleaner. Also a reco kit is a good move to long term reliability.

horrible. Thats why i have a webber. Pulled the old carby apart to put a kit through it and all it ended up in the bin.

i got a weber on mine and works fine one day then the next wont work porperly. or works fine in the morning then drive about 20 mins wont work properly then drive another 20 mins and runs fine again. so im going to efi i have had enough i cleaned the carby out and put a kit thorugh it and nothing changed

To fix the idle jets or clean them, look at the side of the two barrels of the weber.

You will find a larger brass screw with a flat head screwdriver slot in it.

Behind these screws (one on each side of the carb) are the idle jets. The brass screws are the holders for the idle jets.

Pull the brass screw and you will see a pointed tip with a hole in it. Pull this pointed brass tip out of the big brass screw and you will have the jet in your hand.

Clean the jet,and the brass screw meticulously. Any tiny bit of dust will block it up again. While the screws are out, blast some compressed air in the hole the idle jet came out of to clean the passages.

Pay close attention to the small rubber o-rings that are on the brass screws, if they become messed up, you have larger vacuum leak. Keep carb cleaner and starting fluid well away from these little o-rings, because it likes to melt them.

Sometimes if you have bad gas, you will have tiny flakes of junk in the float bowl so if it starts runnign like crap a few minutes to a few days later, pull them out and blow them clean again.
