I'm looking for suggestions for a carby for my 1.3, i've heard a carby off a 4k corolla will go on but want more info if anyone can help??

weber 32/36 as long as you dont want a snorkel or on any real steep hills, i thought i read somewhere about a fix for this but i cant remember what it was, not super helpful but my 2 cents worth |

wow, thanks guys, i wasnt gonna check for responses till tomorrow but happy i did 
the standard carby i have now needs work, it idles really low on cold startup and seems to just be dumping fuel like its turning on a tap, i can smell it while im driving. |

Brother has just purchased a Coily and has similar problems,engine is running way too rich,terrible MPG & exaust pipe is covered in soot like a chimney. Might try the Toyota carby before reco'ing the original. |

yeah, kinda, lol, i know the auto choke is stuffed, it idles warm at 1100rpm and has trouble starting when cold, also at the back of the carby there is a spring on a plastic thing that i think controls the auto choke and that thing is broken and the butterfly just sort of floats and does what it wants. this is one of the reasons i am thinking of changing the carby to something with a manual choke... |

so i put a new air filter in, since it was only 16 bucks, it seems to start better but the smell is still there, kinda out of ideas now, other than getting another one and overhauling it that way i dont have to bee off the road.. |

It is more than probable that the choke butterfly is closed even when up to operating temp and driving. This will pull shitloads of fuel through the primary jet making it run like shit and stink like shit. Now go sort that shit! |

Now go sort that shit! These guys are on the money mate. I just cable-tied the flap open as my little spring had lost all tension and the choke could flap about whenever it wanted. Had exact same symptoms as you. My plan was to rebuild the carb, however since I tied the choke open my car uses less fuel, idles much nicer and funnily enough revs more freely under load and feels like it's got more torque all round. When working correctly the choke only affects your car until warm. If you've still got problems (when the car is warm) after you tie it open then at least you can rule out the choke flap causing those problems. Who knows u could be lucky like me and find out ur carb aint too bad after all - it was just the choke doin it's own thing lol. |

ok, i cable tied the choke and that seems to have worked quite well, still a smell but no where near as much as there was before thanks guys assuming i get better fuel consumption im gonna leave it the way it is till i have money for an engine transplant

Cool. If you get real excited you can remove the butterfly flap via the two phillips head screws. How's it go on the highway? Sit on 100kmh no prob? 110kmh? |

x2 also check you float level (and if its all there... i've had two snapped floats in 7 years) It may be spitting out bits of fuel. (if its downright dumping it your car we flood and run really rough if at all) |
