Post subject:  Jimny issues!

:helloo: Guys,

I am having a couple of issues with my 09 jimny.

First issue is the starter motor. When i go to start the car, the starter motor will click once, then if i keep holding the key(3-5 seconds) it will then fire. Other times, it will turn over and start first go. Any idea what could be causing this? I don't know much about starter motors, but im guessing it's got some thing to do with the solenoid?

Second issue, is i have a "Malfunctoin inicator light" that keeps coming on, every time i start my car( when it's starts  ). The owner's manual says it's a problem with the "emissions control systems", i had this issue when i put my extractors on, and to fix it, i had to put a pipe from the EGR thing into the last header pipe, then the light stop coming on, but now its back. I would like to fix this my self if i can, cus it's chewing through the fuel some thing bad :? , and i won;t be able to take it to suzuki until Thursday next week. Any idea on what could be cuasing this? The senors on exhuast maybe? :?

Cheers,

Monkey!!

so let me clear this up, you want to install these issues after you've got them?

or did you & your HTC fail & find the wrong section. :thefinger:

can you get the error codes out of the ECU to get an idea of what it's spazzing out on, or is that where you got "emissions control" from?

could it be that the little EGR pipe has blocked up with carbon deposits.

My integra had the exact same problem. It was the cyp sensor in the dizzy. Apparently it's easier to just replace the whole dizzy.

Mud and or poor earths.
MJud and dust eats starter motors.
My vit had a similar issue,
turned out to be crap in the ignition key hole.

I think the sensor in the exhaust is an O2 sensor.
If faulty, poor economy can be the result.

A guy in our club bought a new one for his Vit, and is very happy now.
He had to search hard for a good price after market one,
cos some where OUCH me bum hurts prices.

My Sierra continually blocked the egr valve path way with soot,
which could happen if your engine runs too rich, too long.
Fixing 02 sensor may fix that??

PS I'm new to EFI and this could be all useless info

try cleaning the sensor or its wires / plugs. May be intermittent because its dirty or loose??

Don't know but you might of cleared your codes when you disconnected stuff!
Bridging the little plug thing hanging off your ecu harness may give you an idea, but make sure its the right one and way or you will smoke or reset something or fuke it right and proper!
You may need to go for a couple of drives and flog the shit out of it before the codes come back. Take it to your Suzi dealer so they can plug their scan tool onto it so they can work out what's going on.

This is how I get the basic codes on mine as there are no Suzi dealer within coo wee of here and generic scan tools here don't work.

My egr valve was rooted a while back, caused it to go to limp mode and chew fuel etc. Does it idle rough aswell? My engine light also came on when I fried my starter too.

Sounds like an EGR issue.

I'd put it at that then... When the starter was fucked it idled ok... Should be covered regardless of mods unless you've put extractors etc on

Ok it's throwing codes again, but it only seems to do it when it gets below 1/4 of a tank of fuel  . I did not have time today to find the little plug thing, that's tomorrows job.

tank full of water, have you had it submerged lately?

if yes, run the tank low & get a bottle of methylated spirits & pour about 500ml into the tank, metho absorbs the water to some extent

Post subject:  Re: Jimny issues!

It's easy as to do the check engine thingo!!

Some picks

Some things you might or might not need. Use your imagination.

Image

Two finished versions, the paperclip is the easiest!

Image

Put your head in the passenger side foot well and look up and to the left, behind the glovebox. Its a tiny plug hanging out of that big harness going to the ECU. Put new tool in this one with ignition off.

Image

Don't fuck with the yellow one!!!

Image

Turn ignition on and count flashes.
You can even leave it in (the wire; not your finger) while your driving around, to pick up some of those hard to get codes.

Argh cheers moag!!!! I know where those wires are now I think. How do I know what pins I put the little tool thing into ???? I have a bad history with elertrics catching fire.

Author:  Moag [ Tue Sep 13, 2011 12:24 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Jimny issues!

If you look at the plug closely you will see that the top row of three only has one pin in it, in the centre; ..... that's the top.

The other end of the tool, goes to the bottom left pin.
