My build shows how I did it. I have a lux commo shock combo and the lean softens them up. Plus I get extra flex. |

Positives: See above. Negatives: You have to move the top mounts. And they soften them up slightly (Good or bad depending on how the shock rides already.) |

But with my rancho's (twin tube shock) inverted, the shocks don't work at all. And they soften them up slightly (Good or bad depending on how the shock rides already.) actually it changes the damping ratio by lots I'm now running shocks with about twice the damping to match the front. but yes it allows a lot longer shock to be installed |

Inboarding the shocks effectively increases the amount of axle travel/for a given amount shock travel. Think trigonometry. Due to the change in axle travel/shock travel the dampening rate of the shock is also effectively decreased. |

Only reason i still have the rear ones is because i dont wanna buy new shocks now, when ill need longer ones in a few months. |

You can buy bolt in kits from lowrange for cheap.. Or make something to bolt up for even cheaper. Or just weld a new cross member in.. |

X2 a lot of shocks do't work at all upside down, or the valving gets VERY VERY soft. The adjustable ranchos I have here are pretty good for what I do. I would prefer a gas charged shock, but find one that is adjustable is really hard to do. I carry enough weight to drop the rear end to the bumpstops sometimes, and then sometimes I am empty. I also drive everywhere I wheel and then drive home, so a different valving for road than highway is nice to have. I have the knob shocks though, not the new 9-way air operated. |

This whole "inverting" thing brings the lolz. The term was somehow dreamed up by retarded hilux owners who thought that rotating their shocks from running fore-aft to across the car was (a)cool and (b) "inverting" them. WTF. The rear shocks on a SWB Sierra are already freakin' "inverted" based on what the hilux mouth breathers reckon. If inverted actually means what it's supposed to mean, i.e "turning the shocks upside down" then only mono tube gas and remote reservoir shocks work upside down. If inverted means "leaning the tops in" then yes it can work, assuming you are prepared for the loss of damping rate. A shock at 45 degrees will be 40% softer than the same shock vertical. I know this stuff was mentioned across a couple of posts here but it can't hurt to reiterate it. Steve |

You got a smile out of me Steve, thanks for clarifying it and getting it all in one post. One thing I would like to mention is that leaning the shocks in will also cause a bit of body roll. Think about the shocks at the end of the axles, and the end of the body. Now when you hit a bump going around a corner, all that weight from the momentum falls on the very outside of the axles, and the weight it is bearing is from the body at the outside. Now imagine top of the shocks are in the center of the body. Go around that same corner and hit that same bump. Now the body will pivot over that spot on the body the shocks are mounted to. Once you get enough force to start the body leaning, tuck one side down, and have the inside of the body come up, the weight pivots on the shock mounts, and transfers over to that outside and there is nothing on the outside of the body to dampen it. Kind of like a teeter totter on the play ground if you know what I mean. Code: Like this

The Lowrange kit only fits SWBs. The LWB (either Sierra or Maruti) have slightly different spacing and the Lowrange kit will need to be modified. |
