What grease is recommended when servicing these? I would doubt mine have been serviced ever in the 200k the car has done.
Do you use much of it or just enough to lubricate?

As far as I know HTB grease, as per wheel bearings. Don't pack them full, a reasonable wipe on all surfaces is plenty.
Too much grease will jam the hub up.
Steve.

I tend to think the snapped rusty springs are more from cars that weren't used off road and therefore the front end wasn't serviced, then bought at 20+ years old and offroaded without looking at the hubs.... until they don't work, then: "aisin hubs are rubbish" my springs snapped hubs are rusty etc.
Some basic maintenance and there's no problem IMHO.
Steve.

I think there is a case to try Unbrako's with the stock cone washers, or toyota style studs with cone washers though - which can be done with Aisin hubs, but I'm not sure upgrading to 10mm bolts is a good idea. I'm running unbrako's on my rear floater with no cone washers (drive flanges have no provision for cone washers) and have had no problems with breakage *touches wood* Steve.
First I've heard of em....
Do agree with bolt's tho, I like having a weak point...

I have had AVMs on my sierra for a few years too with no dramas, i don't break any drive line stuff so i can't comment on how strong they are.
My original ones suffered from the 20 years of no maintenance i suppose and did not unlock/lock all the time which sucked when no-one had a small socket kit when we got to the track and I was rwd only :/.
Someone mentioned the bolts come out?, I think I have had one go missing. I should check them next time I see the zook .

These are the Sierra version and will require cone washers. If you pull the vitara version from a wrecker where they will be almost free you don’t require the cone washers as they don’t have tapered holes.

All the ones in Sydney wanted $120 - $180 a pair when I was looking for a set for my Jimny a few years ago.

300NA- yes.
Pete- we get them from pull-it-yourself wreckers. Pretty cheap.
