Hey guys, looking at getting my first jimny and im considering swapping the m13 for a m15 or m18 to get a tad more power but what i really want is more torque. I did drive a new jimny the other day it didnt go too bad but a lil more power wouldnt hurt imo.

i know the external size of the engines are all the same but will either the m15a or the m18a bolt up to the factory jimny gearbox? and will the engine bolt straight up to the original engine mounts?

and what other parts would be needed for this swap or is the new engine the only thing?

any help would be muchly appreciated

From my understanding they are a straight bolt in job.

An easy comversion.

As to what us needed apart from the engine I am not sure. Pm stekky (steak knife) and ask him. He recently did a m15 comversion on zookylizs jimny.

m13a = 62.5kw / 110nm
m15a = 74.5kw / 133nm
m16a = 92kw / 148nm
m18a = 92kw / 170nm

so if torque is what you're chasing it'd be hard to go past the m18a... the m18a is also quite low compression (9.6:1 vs the m16a's 11:1) so you can supercharge or turbo it down the track =D check out kyzermattingley's (i think thats his name?) build - he turboed an m18a in his jimny.

M series are chain driven DOHC engines,

G series is a belt driven SOHC.. Basically a sierra engine with a 16valve efi head on it.

Not all M series ar vvt though.. Early on when they changed over from the G series to the M it was an option to get the vvt. Later down the track they all came with it.

sweet it sounds like a pretty straight forward swap. i reckon id go with the m18 since going through the process of bolting in a new motor but a m15 is much much easier to get a hold of and iv currently got a 06 swift 1.5 and the engines arent too bad but still id rather the 1.8 if i can get one.

1.8 will need an ecu, 1.5 will run on the jimny one.

You have to swap ALL your jimny stuf, like manifold's, rocker cover, a/c bracket, sump, on to the new eng...

kool, well thats not too bad since all of those parts will come off the old motor. does the m18 just require the m18 ecu or a piggy back?

Either would do.
But if I was to do it I'd run a 1.8 ecu grafted into the jim loom to make it look genuine...

1.5's are every where & the increase in power/torque is awesome...
1.8's are rare.

ok sweet. yea thats exactly what im thinking. iv been talking to a guy at my local suzuki wreckers and he said they get a m18 come in every now and then and if they do it sells straight away, but they have heaps of 1.5s laying around with low ks too so im thinking even the increase in kw and torque in the 1.5 would be enough, iv got the swift with the 1.5 and its not too bad.

i was going to do a m18 swap with my swift but the g/box wont bolt up to a 1.8 so id have to change everything and thats just a pain in the ass lol but id rather do it to a jimny and it sounds like a fairly straight forward swap.

If you have the time and money I would hold off as long as you can and try to find a M18.

The reason, it seems like no matter what engine a guy has, we always crave for more. I installed a 8 valve 1.6 last summer. although it is heaps more powerful, and more than I will ever need, I am still wanting a 16 valve MPFI, or a 2.0/2.3.

I actually bought a 6 vavle .6 because it was a killer deal. Now I am going to have t rebuild it and stick it in for another 15-20 Horsepower. Do I need it, no, is it practical since I have the 8v 1.6 not really. However I am still going to do it , because like most I still want more power armsup.

Unless you need something to wish for, go for the most powerful engine you can fit in without too much trouble. (within reason, no need for a V6 donk)

:? Why do you need the m18a ECU? Cus all the swaps i have read about they have not changed the ECU and have not had any issues. I was speaking to suzistore about it and they said there will be no difference if you run a m18a or a m13a ECU with the 1.8. A mate of mine is getting a m18a put in his jim on Monday it will be running the m13a ECU. I'll let you know how it goes after i test drive it :D .

awesome deffinately let me know how the swap goes.
here on the gold coast i can get a m15a for $800 thats for a complete motor with about 20 000 kms on it, they dont sell many high km engines, m18 i think they said about $1200 when they get one in

have done m15sport m16 and m18 mate 0427289141any dramas also have low k engines 4 sale not to hard conversion the 1800 flys 5inch lift 31/10.5'/15s

whos that i work as a mech in my time off i am also diesel fitter at the biggest suzuki wreckers in wa so dont need any help only came on here to try help some people who are always asking questions i have done v6 commodore into ute five years ago i am surrounded by every part performance and standard for every suzuki ever made even have a lj20 down here so watever fast mouth
