Hey i was just wondering on some ways to make a snorkle i have some scrap alloy pipes i can use with either some rubber bends or find someone to weld it i dont have the right tools for that.
also my mates got a pvc pipe one he made and says it would be better because its bigger the the alloy pipe i have i dont know i'm not car savy but i wanna do alot of the things my self so i learn.

any idea on best ways to do this and designs

i did a pvc pipe snorkle. havent broken it from hitting branchs yet. cost about $30 all up to do. you can get a mesh part for it to put at the top to stop people putting shit down your snorkle.

the alloy is about 2 and a half inch i think its about the same as the hole you would go into on the filter

That's plenty big enough.

Get some rubber/silicone elbows and get to it!

You'l have to bolt mounts on seeing as you can't weld ally, make sure you seal the bolt holes!

I'm looking into a snorkel as well and dont want to pay the huge price of getting a pre made one. I would be happy with a pvc pipe cause if it do's get broken it's easy to fix or replace. What would be a good size for the pipe to be to attach to the g16b? Is it something that a novice could put together as well? I would get a hand from a friend cutting into the body though. Something like that you really want to make sure you dont make a mess of.

Andrew that is a good looking Snorkel that you have thrown together. what did you use to fasten it to the body and the air hose? I like the idea of turning the intake backwards as well to help with extra dust and crap being sucked in. Very nice.

I looked at the signature block and saw this was from the UK and I though thank goodness that is not in Australia, it is hideous.

Apprently a metel snorkel is illegal in austrailia so I'd look into it as doing the same I've heard the PVC pipe works great cheap go replace a piece pipe then to get another one made up or cut and re-welded thought I'd let you know

Are they talking about putting metal things on the side of your car? Because people do that all the time with bar work that protects your guards.

Trucks have metal intakes (kenworth T904's and the like).

The Legalities come down to the Old "sharp protruding objects" . So as long as you don't have any sharp bits like crappy brackets, and it doesn't Obstruct Driver vision (either by being across the windscreen like the one above, or cause the sun to shine in your eyes) its perfectly legal.

no worries mate - nowadays we keep our hideous things as we can't ship em out anymore,
weird that us Brits now appear to have the more "live and let live, to each their own" attitude.
