this is my first post!

So, i drowned my sierra about two weeks ago. took water into the motor and had to take all the spark plugs out and crank the water out. as soon as i got home, i changed the oil and did a spark plug change. she drove like a dream for a week, but then it all changed. just out of the blue, she wouldnt idle. she would just start up and die. when it did idle, it would constantly fluctuate the revs by itself. now when im driving, unless its in gear with revs up, the motor just dies. as soon as i push the clutch in or put it in neutral, the revs drop rapidly and the engine dies. im honestly mind boggeled on whats going on, ive tried everything i can think of. does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Your problem sounds carby related - possibly either the idle jet is clogged or the fuel cutoff solenoid is playing up.

I'm sure a 'real' mechanic will post up and advise the best fixes for those problems.

i had a similer problem after i did the same thing.
my idle solenoid was all gummed up.. gave it a clean with wd40 etc to clean it out and have had no troubles since. i think the muddy water dired it out..

X2, also strip ya carb down and drain it, also do your fuel filter, then bung some methanol thru it.

jmd-247 - ahh i didnt think of that! so you just unplugged it, unscrewed it and gave it a bit of a spray eh? cheers heaps ill go do that now! i should have thought of that

Teracis - Yeah mate, i took the fuel tank off, drained it, cleaned all the fuel lines too. it was a good idea actually, they get pretty scummy down there

alright, so i just did the solenoid, no noticable difference.. but after playing around with it, it seems like it actually doesnt work... haha so mabye thats half my problem. strip the carb and the fuel filter down now, and see how i go

did you drop the diff, gearbox & transfer oils?

I sunk mine similar engine was fine (drove it home) but everything else was a chocolate milkshake, even with breathers.

wrecked engine, diff, and wheel oil seal too,

turned into an expensive swim,

Ill drop the diff, gearbox and transfer oils tonight and see how i go.
