I assume they are Vits Struts, as he posted them on my build thread.
Be interested to see prices, and lengths etc

I haven't found anything like measurements anywhere.
But Bits4Vits will measure them up if I ask nicely.

I think they are 40 mm longer
They are the shit. The rod is 2x as thick as normal struts
All the zukiworld race cars are running them and love them
They recon the car handles so much better with them

I ran bilsteins on my rangi and for the couple of trips I went on it was sensational. A mates defender had them, and they were super plush on road ride, didn't fade on corrigations like my OME's did in the patrol, and had good travel.

I also ran them in my drift/track ae71 corolla.... for that I rate them Highly!!!

I don't mind the look of the rear shocks that match them.

Probably on my future wish list.
But I let others try them first

I still got one good one,
only one died, others not too bad.

4wd action relocated/postponed the trip to undefined time,
so I could be a show up at Beachport,
probably less wankers than the 4wd action trip :))

They look so so so good, I wish I knew abuot them about 2 months ago when I my Dobinsons. But so far I must admit my Dobinsons have been freakin awesome! They are so comfortable, the rides and handles like it never has before.

Bilsteins look very pretty though

I have heard very very good reviews on the Bilstein 5100/5160 series shocks, as a matter of fact I don't think I have seen much negative press on any bilsteins at all.

I think they are going to be my next set. I love the adjustably of the ranchos, but if they ride good on ad off road, I WBF getting and adjusting them

Post subject:  Re: Bomb Proof Blinstien Struts

I had a hunch about these and after having a look at the Bilstein website, it turns out I'm right -

They are not quite what they appear to be. The "shaft" that looks about 2" thick isn't the shaft at all. (If it was, there's be no room for any piston/oil in the shock body. These are "upside down" struts. The 07 STi was AFAIK the first application of these from an OEM. The "shaft" is kind of the shock body.

I don't doubt they are of very high quality, possibly higher quality than anything else available, but these are an OEM replacement type of part - they're not a race part.

I can see that now you pointed it out.
That explains the shape at the top.
Almost a bit sneaky.
But sometimes we trick ourselves.

My Dobinsons are working great, hopefully pass the test of time

Post subject:  Re: Bomb Proof Blinstien Struts

There's nothing sneaky about it - it's done to reduce sprung weight in a sports car application AFAIK, and it removes load from the shaft. This is undoubtedly a good thing, but it doesn't mean they are "bombproof" - far from it, in fact, because the piston runs directly on the "shaft" of the strut, even a small dent will render the strut useless as it will jam.

A monotube strut is easier to make "upside down" as the knuckle mounts can be welded to the shroud rather than the shock body where it might result oin binding of the piston.

You can see the difference (and the real location of piston shaft) in this diagram
