Post subject:  Ironman LT66 MT Mud Tyre
Ironman LT66 MT Mud Tyre

Anyone got any experience with these. I'm considering swapping up to 30 x 9.5 and want a tyre that will be aggressive enough for the occasional mud and rock, have a chunky look, but still have a solid centre row of tread to reduce the noise and vibration. Also they have to be under $180 each 8O
I also like the large edge blocks of these.

I forgot about those tyres, i remember seeing them years ago on a ute my mate bought. Havent seen any since.

I read some reviews on the outlander(overlander?) forums when I was looking for new tyres, so there driving style probably isn't much to base it one but they seemed happy with them.. Good on road handling, quite and wore well. I'm guessing they also never went further than a gravel track with them..

Yeah read that and took much the same from it. Certainly haven't read anything bad anywhere.
I'm looking for an aggressive AT and I think these look the part.

why dont you try some second hand tyre joints first? you can probably pick up a known brand with 90% tread for less than your budget.

We ran them for a period of 3 months on the cruisers at work (underground mine vehicles) while the bighorns were unavailable. They lasted only 1 and a half to 2 weeks compared to the 4 to 6 weeks the bighorns lasted. The grip of the ironmans were horrible compared to the bighorns. The may of been cheaper, but cost the mine more as the replacement rate was high as were the failures. Not saying buy bighorns, im saying I strongly advising don't buy the ironmans!

I almost always buy used tyres but this time around I am thinking I'd like to be a bit more specific in my slection. :wink:

Thant's great experience but hardly a worthy comparison considering nothing lasts long at mines 8O 95% of my driving is on tar.

When you they have horrible grip on what terrain are we talking?

Check out the General Grabber At2. Kinda a BFG all terrain pattern. I got 120,000km out of mine! Crazy wear...they were stupidly average in the wet though once they got to abotu 70,000. Still bloody good mileage. i'd say 95% was on road driving.

The grip issues were on the decline which are are a packed sand stone roadbase which is graded at least once every 24 hours. I found in cornering both up and down the decline, they push the front wheels when turning, understeer i believe. When the roads are wet on the declines they weren't fun to drive on, your nearly 15kms slower than what we can on the bighorns.

For the 95% on road time they are probably a pretty good tyre, but from my expeience not so good in the hard packed dirt roads when they get a little moist.

I have the federal couriga ats

pretty happt with them so far... havent get any isues or loss of grip while wheeling in dry and wet, and no problem yet either while driving in rain.... also I dnt push the car too much in rain so :P


donno bout construction or technical aspect on them, but they where cheap and they have a good open aggressive tread to be an A/T tyre
