OK posting this here just for peoples info as I know this is a popular pump for sierra EFI conversions

here is a pic of the pump as removed and by itself, to me it looks pretty similar to an ordinary jap car intank pump and all teh 500hp skyline pumps on ebay, so hopefully I can find something tomorrow at my local autocheap that I can make fit

or I can go get one of them fancy ones and justify it by fitting NAWWWZZZZZ

Certainly does look like every Jap in tank pump. Can you just buy the pump by itself with out buying the whole lot?

so far repco dont list a pump for it so will have to hunt around tomorrow to see who has what on the shelf

no idea on genuine, I dont earn enough to even ask

it did come good after smacking it with a shifter but I'm not game enough to refit it

I know with the Ford in-tank pumps you can just buy a replacement pump. I think they are Bosch?

yeah you can buy a few aftermarket replacement pumps, shouldnt be hard to get one close enough to a match

hay royce, today the vitara shat itself!
for the last week it has been really laggy with acceleration, but today i turned it over after having a 30min drive and it started and then ideled really ruff and then to the stage where it stalled. i could start it again but it ran really ruf and stalled, even if i had my foot to the floor on the accelerator it didnt make a differnce, im not sure if it is my fuel pump or just a blocked filter, i will be replacing the filter tommorow.
What are your thoughts, do you think it could be the fuel pump?
if so how much roughly are they going for and are they hard to install.

i got a vit pump here in logan. im not sure of condition.
i think you will be best to just go to atuobarn or the like and match up one

petroject list a replacement pump for the vit, same pump is used in V6 mitsubishis and 6cyl Subarus so I would assume it can supply enough for anything you might want to do to a 1.6

well new pump has arrived, $121.18 later
its a Bosch pump, lited as common Japanese car 38mm
Bosch number is 0580453477 if anyone knows of a list to figure its specs out, googling brings up lots of strange cars

Good thread Royce, just what I've been looking for

I've picked up a coily tank for my EFI conversion. Obviously I plan on using a Vit pump.
My questions is, can I use the coily pick-up? Or do I have to get one from a Vit tank?

The pump could just hang off the discharge line easy enough. But can I get fuel resistant grommets for the wires to the pump? I'm a bit worried about fuel leaking out...

Have a wrecker scrounge. I reckon almost any EFI suzuki will have the same pickup bolt pattern and sort out the grommets, lines etc for you. (PS they don't use grommets - they use insulated pass-throughs that are fuel proof.)

the pump? its been supplying explosive liquid since about July 23 2008

only drama I had with it was refitting it the assembly was a bit long and bottomed out on the tank so I lifted it a bit while balancing the tank half unbolted so have no idea where empty really is anymore

I found a pickup and pump from a 2000 Baleno.
The flange is exactly the same, so it bolts straight in
Unfortunately the Baleno tank being a little shallower than the Coily Tank, means that the pump will sit about 100mm off the bottom. This was easily fixed by extending the discharge line with pipe and the pump wiring with fuel resistant wires.

ok well my fuel pump seemed to have died today, thought i might re dig this thread instead of making a new one.

rang suzistore and they have 2 fuel pumps a 38mm ($199) and a 51mm ($245) is it worth going to 51mm or just stick to the 38mm? or will the 51mm pump be completely different and worth the upgrade??

I would go the 38mm, because even if the 51mm can deliver more fuel you're never going to need it unless you whack a turbo on. Even then...

HAY ROYCE!!!! did your tank have a cup or something like that on the bottom of the tank to keep the fuel around the pickup in corners???

I retrofitted my stock leafy tank with a RX7 pump and pickup that looks pretty much like yours. However I find that if i'm at 1/4 tank or below, hard left hand corners induce low fuel pressure backfires

I know that coily tanks have a swirl pot in the bottom, so I would imagine that the EFI vits do aswell.

...you could use a hairdressers water squirter and it would probably inject enough fuel in the lines for a 1.6...


and if your paying that much for a fuel pump your getting Ripped. 58 Dollars for mine from Nepean Auto Spares. like with royces, mine was suited for a V6 Paj, a Subaru Lib's and a few other cars.

I bought mine of ebay and fits and works just fine. The one I bought for the corolla turned out to be pretty much the same pump, I had to muck around with the wiring plug but nothing a little solder and heat shrink didn't fix. I have also noticed and Nissan and Mitsu pumps are the same.

Both the pumps I bought off evilbay were about $60.

Walbro pumps also bolt in. Check my build thread...but be warned!! they crap out VERY quick if run dry! It's a different type of pump to the Vitara one in design the vitara pump is a lot more durable and have been running my 4age 20v reliably for 18 months.

Yeah its got a little ring in the bottom to keep fuel in around the pickup, its why my tyres are wearing on the outside edge so much

I have used a . Vp commodore 6cyl efi pump with no issues
There is some wiring that requires changing : ie the power conector is different - use the filter that comes with the commo pump
And hoseclamp the shabangabang to the pickup
I used it as a backup until a replacement turned up
From eBay - $$ price from there was about $40
