Hey guys

im looking at getting reduction gears for the zook, though I am unsure as to which ones I should get. I know the general specs of the 4.9:1 and the 6.5:1 and all that.
my zook is on 31x10.5 with stock axels, and I do mostly rock and un-even rut driving so slower is better but the problem is its also my daily driver. so would 6.5:1 be too low for highway speeds? what revs at what speed for example

if you could help out would be appreciated.

I have 6.5's in my coily(3.9) diff ratio's. 100km/h gets me about 3900ish rpm. I think 6.5's are cheaper to purchase also 8)

yea there cheaper. i do a bit of travellin up and down from bunno to miriwa (or what eva its spelt)
would that not be to high for to long? how much is the spead dial out?

speedo is out 10 i think from memory 6.5s are awsome for the rocks will suit you well how ever its not the best on the beach with the 1.3 engine and 31s also its the tyres and diff gears that put the speedo out not the transcase gears

From memory I sit at about 4100rpm at 110kph with 6.5's, stock WT diffs and 31" Cooper STTs. I'm really happy with them in mine. Had the Zook up to 125kph in 4th with a trailer on the back (overtaking a road train) so it still has legs in it at speed.

I'd recommend 5.14 for 31s especially if its your daily driver.
its low enough for 99% of what you are going to drive.

even though 6.5 are cheaper, you will end up hating them.
they are just too low unless you are going to trailer it everywhere.

Your mates would have finished four wheeling for the day by the time you turn up.

iv got the 1.6l carbie stock axels, would 4.9:1 put the speedo back to norm. i thought 4000+ would be killing the engine and fuel economy for long trips.
i like the idea of slow 4wd but not reving all the way to perth.

I'm not saying that you can't sit on 110kph with 6.5 gears but I would prefer it at 600rpm lower.

My dad doesn't own a petrol station

x2 i love my 6.5s i doubt 600 RPM is going to make to much difference to your fuel usage

I run 6.5's. Will be running 6.5's, g16b and 31's for a bit while I sort out my auto conversion. I was running 6.5's with 33 big horns. Seemed well geared. Will let you know how I go in the coming weeks.

maby someone on the forum could take you for a drive in theres with 6.5 id take you but right now the car has done head gastket and is sitting on blocks ready for total buggy strip down haha

I was thinking of running 6.5's with 30's and 3.7 diff gears. Would this be close to 31's with 3.9's? And I don't wanna spend the money for 5.14's when atm 6.5's are only $475 on lowrange.

I have been running 6.5 with 3.7 diffs and 32" tires for about 2 years now, mainly as a daily driver as well as bush beast. Very happy with them.

Have a look at the Gear Set Comparison Chart in the below link.

I think it's good to combine diff gears and transfercase reduction gears as it's splits the load between the two instead of having all your gearing in the just the transfercase. This is what i've done and i'm very happy with the results...
