Search much? http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... a&start=30 http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... sel+vitara http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... sel+vitara There might be one or two out there but that doesn't make it a good idea (or any financial sense. The info I have indicates the RF mazda engines are hand grenades if you chase any more power out of them - and that's only feasible swap if you want something that's not a minefield of adapter plates and conversion weirdness. Even that would cost over $8K if you wanted something that looked and drove anything like a stock vitara. Not a good idea IMHO. Steve. |

WHY, WHYY!!!, A g16b makes okayish low down torque, gets good fuel economy and delivers decent power throughout the revs. |

Wouldn't NZ be closer? 1996 GV wrecking for conversion parts 1998 GV Auto 2002 GV Manual 2004 GV Manual And those prices are in NZ$, so you can knock 20% off for AU$! |

So the wrecking one is being wrecked because of a big end failure, so the motor is no good to you. The others are NZ$6K+ for a small diesel you can't readily buy parts for here with 220,000+kms on it. I'll stand by my comments this isn't an effective conversion. Buy the car, get it imported and in your driveway is going to cost the best part of $8k before the conversion has even commenced. Buying the whole car and bringing it in as a personal import is an option if you can work the registration rules etc. Thing is, these aren't even very good. Steve. |

Did you drive it to know? Is that the one with the Serena diesel? I would have thought it would have had significantly less HP than a stock G16B, and whilst it may well have a fair amount less torque, it has 2000rpm rev range so it needs a big increase in torque to overcome the loss of rev range. Steve. |

A motor with peak torque at 1800 rpm is perfect for 4x4. But most people on this site are g16b byast. Just because it hasn't been done before dosnt mean it's not a good idea.Y |

I think diesel suck for hard 4x4' The peak torque at 1800 rpm that is good for chugging up hills at idle also is it's down fall going back down the other side because can't go slow enough because all that torque at idle is still pushing u If u put tc gear in it to slow it down ,then when it comes time to have to power out of a roll say droping off a ledge u run out of wheel speed because u only have a low redline unless u can change gears like a race driver My mate has had 2 diesels in his Sierra 1.8 gemi and now 3.1 td mu motor The car is pretty much a cramped hilux so after bending the chassis over the log at tuff truck because of all the weight of the motor we just started building him a hilux |

just sorting out the gearing would suck a bit as not many diesels will enjoy doing 3000+rpm at 100kph and by the time ya sort the gearing to the 1800-2200rpm at 100kph what is going to happen with low range. |

Diesels very much have a place in 4x4's a well sorted diesel with an auto behind it in a well geared truck is great. Gobloads of torque, engine braking galore, good range. Exactly what you have described is the gearing issue that everyone has spoken about. |

The other problem is that it is in a vitara. There are more things to worry about than putting a 4x4 motor in a city car. Haha |

It wouldn't look good to the clients going back into the salon the next day with your hands still smelling of diesel after filling up at a hi-flo truck bowser! |
