Hi,
Just wondering what Tyre pressure I should run on my Jimny. The label on the door sill says 23psi for the front and 26psi for the back. I tried that and the tyres bag too much. So i've put 25psi in the front and 28 psi in the back. It seems to run better but, I dont know if it will damage the tyres.
I have no idea about tyre pressure. I do have an ARB bar on the front so I'm guessing I need to run more air in the front to compensate for the weight.
Anyone HELP!!!!!!
Cheers
Shoey

I don't think you have much to worry about sticking an extra 2 psi in with the extra weight from the bar it's probably a good idea, you should be fine. Just don't go sticking an extra 20psi in .

I run 28psi all round and that's with a bar and winch...though I do have muddies that don't start to bag until 12psi...

I'd still rather have maximum available traction though, ABS or not, you'll stop quicker with correctly inflated tyres.

I bet he works for a tyre shop. They love over-inflating tyres to cause an inflation to their future sales figures...

I agree. I got my 31's fitted and told them to inflate to 24psi. They put in 38 I deflated them in front of the bloke and he said I was crazy. Would cause uneven wear

I run 18psi on stock tyres. I was running 10psi with the 31's, but they had a much stiffer sidewall.

Go push through a corner at a speed a lot higher than you think possible, then go push the same again with the correct tyre pressures and see how much easier it is
We've been through this, even had smart people in the game explain why its so yet you Johnny come latelys all wanna keep spurting your shit as fact, go away unless you have some real tech to post

And less grip.
So do you live work, shop and everything else on the highway?
Or do you pull over and inflate your tyres when you join the highway and then deflate them back to the proper pressure when you hit the suburbs?

X2, 30psi in a zook is madness, id hate you behind me, or anywhere near me.
If your looking for good fuel milage, buy a hyundi

I have no problem understanding a logical thought pattern.
You haven't presented one.
"I drive on country roads so I don't need the braking capability of a car driven around town" isn't logic, it's denial.
You appear to have tyres with a far higher load rating and stiffer construction than the factory tyres. there is no logical case for increased pressure over standard.
Steve.

Agreed!
I ran 34psi for a while asw it was what I used to run in the last car I owned, then realised my tyres were wearing unevenly!!
Recommended presures are 29 in the rear and 26 in the front with no load or 29 with load.
As I have the ARB bar on the front now with the winch attached I run 29 all round and I totally agree with Royce... Drives better and feels WAY SAFER!
Thats my 2 cents anyways

That, coupled with the fact that you run a bigger tyre, I would assume it would handle a hell of alot differently..... You've only gotta look at guys on the beach with bigger tyres needing to go lower to get them to bag preoperly... eg. I've driven with guys on 31s that needed to go to 7psi compared to my 12psi on stockers... same thing on the road dude, if not all your tyre meets the road properly, it's going to affect the traction in some way! Not necessarily enough to make you crash and burn, but it could help you avoid it!

They should be inflating them to the recommended pressures on the tyre placard of the car....

Ummmm....I think they have. It's stated on the sticker known as a tyre placard!

So I supposed you've done the sums, worked out the load on each tyre and set the pressures accordingly?

best way i reckon to make sure tires are running correctly on road is pump them to say 30 psi
then drive onto a dirty concret floor
let them down untill almost the whole tire pattern starts to touch the floor
so as that when it rolls dirt covers the tread completely
or pump the rears right up for some side ways action when its rains
best thing to do is to test pressure
every 1s driving style vehicle weight and handleing is different
plus tires sizes ands compounds make a massive difference
have a play and see what works best for u

Well said, smartest comment in the thread
I use chalk and draw a line across the tread then see where it rubs off. My floor is clean

If you are going to start from scratch with tyre pressures, you need to apply the 4PSI rule.
I would be surprised if the 4PSI rule results in more than about 24PSI cold in a Jimny with LT tyres.
