hi does anyone know what a steering penhard is?? and where i can get one to fit my SJ80??

The panhard rod stops horizontal movement of the diff. It will be fitted between the diff and chassis

Are you confusing the panhard rod (or bar) with the center link?

The panhard rod is not a steering component, but a suspension one, commonly found in coil sprung vehicles and usually at the rear.

Unless I'm mistaken the SJ80 is leaf sprung and doesn't use a panhard rod.

Can be in either front or rear or both depending on the link setup. I'm pretty sure coil sierras are 3 link on the front (or i would refer to as 2 link + panhard) I think.

Take a pic of what your actually after mate. As fordem picked up, you may be mistaking the part as a steering link ie tie rod or drag link

hey 2stroker, im all good with the part now, it was bent like a bannana so i took it to a mechnic and he bent it back for me =)

I was having problems with my front wheels, every time i went over a series of bumps (eg pot holes) the front wheels and the steering wheel would epically vibrate. Would the bent penard of caused this?

Coily panhard rods are rubbish and bend all over the place which could cause vibation or worse the car to pull itself off the road when hitting large bumps
I would be getting new ones made
Once it's been bent it will keep doing it till it snaps and that could end up really bad

We still have no idea what it is you're asking about - a bent drag link will cause incorrect toe and affect steering stability - a bent panhard rod will probably have less of an effect.

A picture might be a good idea.

wow, still confusion in this thread.

A bent tie rod will cause incorrect toe.

A bent drag link will off-centre steering wheel and may result in a reduction in steering lock in one direction. It will have no effect on toe.

A bent panhard rod will push the axle off centre (one wheel will hang out from the body further than the other)

Regardless of the bend item, they become much more prone to re-bending once they have been bent once and straightened. Replacement or reinforcing is required once straightened.
