Post subject:  How to remove a G16a engine?

I've acquired a second vit and intend to strip some parts off of it. It has had a rebuilt motor put in it 3-4 years ago and hasn't has much use since then, and it uses far less fuel than my current motor.

So I'm going to do an engine swap :D

I've got the help of someone who has performed engine swaps on Subaru's so they will know a fair bit about what to do, and they're also an auto elec with lots of mechanical knowledge.

Are there any tips/tricks/things to remember when removing a G16a? I'm planning to take the gearbox as well.

The donor motor doesn't have Air Con, like my current does, so I'm planning to just disconnect that prior to the swap and reconnect it on the new motor. 8)

not really mate just remember where everything goes and you'll have an easy swap. take photos if you don't think you'll remember and if you get stuck all ya have to do is look at the pics. to make vacuum lines easy a white out pen helps. happy swapping :)

Don't "disconnect" the aircon. Its full of gas, that not only will hurt the world, it'll hurt your pocket when you want to get it filled back up again.

Just un-bolt the compressor from the engine with the hoses attached, and bolt it back on the new engine once it's in.

Even if ya good with remembering where stuff goes.

I usually use brown paper bags. Line them up in an ice cream container to keep things in order. Pictures are good too.

big chunk of cardboard (like an appliance box) and a nikko

punch the bolts into it in the order they came out and draw around it and write what they are

That's what I done for the head and cam cover stuff. Great when you have six different lengths bolts in the one area.

On suzukis I do the same cause there are only ever 3 different bolts but on something like a mini engine where one side plate has 4 different length bolts in 2 different thread profiles and trying the wrong one in a spot normally breaks something expensive its good to be sure :)

Cheers everyone, might be a few weeks away yet, have some busy work weeks ahead, but it doesn't sound like its too hard. And re: the aircon removal, you're right there, I'll want to be saving the gasses if possible! Should just be able to unbolt/rebolt.

Cheers mate that might come in handy. The current tried and true apparatus is an old green kids swing-set frame with a block and tackle ;)
