hey guys
i am currently doing a auto conversion on my vitara its a 4 speed vitara auto transmission i have all the parts needed bar the shifter which is hard to find so i keep getting told rang all suzuki wreckers i could find in nsw ,vic, wa and qld none have one , also i DONT want to get the after market push button elelctroic shifters , so what i am wanting to know is , is the Grand vitara 4 speed shifter the same pattern as the older 4 speed vitara shifter and or is the 3 speed vitara shifter the same as the 4 speed, the 4th overdrive button is not essential as it has been fully manuelised and has not electronics on it
thanks

while im at it if anyone has the normal vitara 4 speed shifter pm me please if u want to get rid of it

Disconnect the power to the tcc

Any cable shifter could be made to work. I am a bit puzzled about the "manualised" thing though. If you only manually selected gears via the shifter, AFAIK you'd loose 4th and any access to converter lock.

I don't like the commercially available pushbutton shifters either (I'd quite like a winters shifter) but I'm planning to wire the tcc power though the 4wd light so the trans runs "full manual" when in 4WD, but auto in 2WD. I can pushbutton control converter Lock and OD, which I don't really want in 4wd (OD that is)

If you are chasing a shifter get one out of an early Magna. I made one of these work in a Jimny with an AW4. It had OD and a power button. The cable was also the same.

As for the whole 'manual shift' thing. When I'm in 4wd I choose first, and it stays in first, then I might choose second.....and it stays in second. Funny that. Requiring any gears above those to have manual control is not required I think.
