Post subject:  Vitara motor questions?

Hi guys. I know its a common question but save time ect I want to know what would be the best Vitara motor for a conversion for a 1997 Coily Sierra. Been doing a fair bit of reading and pricing up for a conversion hopefully soon.
I am a bit confused on what a g16a is. I have been told that this is the carby version of the Vitara motors but our 1994 Escudo (Vitara) is injected but the plate says that its a g16a 16v :? A few people have said the g16b would be the best one to go for but don't seam to be as common as the g16a.
Hopefully makes some sense to some of you.
Cheers

The G16a and G16b engine names were only used in aus to tell the differnce between carby and efi. doesnt look like they did the same in NZ.

In Australia, the G16a vitara's were generally all carby. In other markets such as NZ they came with Throttle Body Injection

The G16B Vitaras generally had multi point fuel injection.

AFAIK, all LWB Vitaras and everything after about 95 was G16B MPFI.

The codes are all over the place in N.Z., but basically you want a multipoint fuel injected 16-valve 1600. You could also use a coilpack Baleno motor, because you can generally find them cheaper with a lot less k's, bit harder to put in though.

What's the difference from the Baleno motors? Why harder to put in?

Out of a front-wheel drive car, coolant piping is completely different as the outlet is at the back of the head, sump needs to be modified for the CAS, oil pickup needs to be modified, need extractors to replace factory manifold, hook up VSS sensor to guage cluster, and there is probably more that I haven't found yet.

Half of that needs to be done with the vit motor anyway...

Motor I am presently fitting to my Vitara is a G16A
and it is multi point injected.
Import motor from a 4wd Swift apparently.
The importer had Balenos, but they were all TBI,
so we both agreed the G16 A would work.
Thankfully it did

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like a G16a 16v will be the one for me. Plan will be to do engine conversion this coming summer. Better get saving.

G16a/b doesn't matter, just 16-valve fuel injected. G16b is probably what you would find in a NZ new injected vitara and the G16a fuel injected ones are probably imports.
