Put up some pics!

Sounds like you've got an unusual diff there, I think the vitara ones are like that, Christover managed to get his together if this is the case as he put the Spartan in the front of his vit.

Also, you got jacked if you paid that price.
http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.ph ... uzsam.html.

I had the Spartan front and rear in my Sierra.

Your front diff is the two pin. So you will need a 4pin and put it up front.
But you should be sweet to use it with the two pin centre if you can find a pin block to hold the washers in place.

Or just put it in the rear. I have the same locker in the rear and it's awesome.

they were right. It will fit in any1.3ltr leaf sprung sierra diff. it will even work in a single pin diff but you need the cross pin block to hold the side gears apart. I know a few sierras that run a lockright in the same diff as yours....

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

ok so the (2 pin) is that just one pin straight through? cause that is what is in there! so i need a new diff center? would be alot stronger with the right diff yeah?

Author:  SierraDan [ Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:38 am ]
Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

That's the 2pin yes. You can get a 4pin centre. Or get a pin block from a 4pin centre and it will work.

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

so would it be weaker with the 2 pin? an you wouldn happen to know where i might source one of those blocks? an is this a sierra diff center or somethin else?

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

Yes, but I wouldn't worry about it. You'd break a CV before the centre I'd say. I think shep has a 2pin locked front.
You could get it from a 4pin diff. So any rear diff and older fronts. But if you're looking for a centre to get the pin, you might as well use the whole thing. Depending on when you need it I could pull a diff apart and send it to you. But I don't have much time till after the weekend.

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

ok so do you think the back is the same or would it be the 4 pin? so you got one for sale dan? no rush might just put it back together do another day!

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

The rear is a 4pin and will go straight in. I have the same locker in the rear of mine.

I can send you a pin block next week if you need it.

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

ok so ive fitted the spartan locker to the front diff into the 2 pin carrier and just used the square block out of a rear diff that had a 4 pin carrier but when you lock the hubs and try to turn left it just clunks and it does the same thing to the right but only just turns to the right..

I'd give it time to bed in, should free up.
Mine was like that at first.

Did you make sure that you removed the thrust washers,
as they can hide in the grease and crud.
If they still in there, locker can't unlock.

Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

Why didn't you use the 4pin carrier?

Author:  christover1 [ Tue Nov 08, 2011 6:25 am ]
Post subject:  Re: locker trouble

PS. Some people have had to trim down the pin block,
to get locker to work,
is rare, but can happen.

To unluck properly,
there needs to be enough space for locker to slide away from side gear,
Hence need to make sure original thrust washers are not stuck to the gears or centre.
And why some have needed to trim down the block.

Occassionally it would not let me steer,
usually during 3 point type turns.

A quick left right on steering usually freed it up.
Doesn't do it now.

I remember during my instal,
1 of the tiny pins was a bit tight,
think that was my cause.

You either have to give it time,

or pull it out and double check everything.
Whatever you feel is right.

If you pull it out,
make sure locker has enough room to unlock,

ok well i can turn the left fine but it make a really bad
crunchin clunkin noise then when you go to turn it back
its really hard and wont even really turn to the right..
might just pull apart and have another look how do i know
if its got room to unlock?
