Post subject:  Jimny side mirror

Found a somewhat similar post but it was solved before it answered my question.

The Jimny's left side mirror started swinging back and forth after some off roading last week. I unscrewed the two screws beneath the hinge and found that a virtical rod that has the wire going through it has snapped in two (god knows how - if you hit something it should just fold back).

I was wondering if: anyone has repaired this before; anyone knows how to fix this; or if anyone has taken a mirror apart before - I can take off the virtical shaft but it's still held in by the wire - what is the next step?

Cheers,
Jimmy

If you don't have an answer by tomorrow, i can look at one tomorrow that has a smashed mirror piece and work out how it comes apart. The one i have is a 00' power mirror, but it should be the same.

The spring is probably tensioned by that rod and the nuts, So it locates in 2 places. It may of been hit hard at one stage and snapped the rod.

Doesn't seem like anyone else has either taken one apart or read the post :(

I wouldn't ask you to go to any trouble, but if you find out how it comes apart besides the two screws that connect it to the car, it'd be wildy appreciated!

Mine is a power the power mirror '00 model too. I found one for just over $100 but there's no point in buying it if I can't fix it - or if the whole thing doesn't need replacing.

Thanks again,
Jimmy

Sorry for the delay

I just pulled mine apart. My Passenger side, the glass was snapped off it. So i didnt care how much i pulled it apart.

To put it straight, It looks like you will be buying a new mirror.

The bracket from the body is solid cast alloy, with a 2 pin locator on the bottom that the mirror end 30mm-ish pin section locates in. The mirror end of the pin spins/locates under pressure from the spring, Which a nut thing is riveted/crushed onto the shaft around the wire holding the spring in under pressure..Which sounds like your riveted nut has come off, or snapped. The small spring is very strong!

Very hard to describe. I have pics but my net is super slow atm.

PM'd.

On the inside of the door, There is a triangle plastic panel, Pop that off, Undo the 3 bolts and connector for electric, No wires for non electric, And the complete mirror will come off.
