Post subject:  Engine Swap - vitara
Hey guys, my vitara is almost ready for its new engine :D

Everything disconnected and labelled, now that the only thing left connected is the gearbox.

This is my first zook and first engine swap, (good motor is ready to go)

Do i seperate the gearbox from the engine or do i take them both out at once? I have already tried to undo the four bolts connecting the box to the engine but they were too tight (or i'm just too soft). Any pointers?

All out in one go is far easier,
if you have the room and good lifting equiptment.

I had to separate engine and auto in car, not much room.

I had to buy a dremel to cut one of them bolts off.

Not my first engine,
but is my first efi auto engine,
is a little more complex.

I took photos of everything,
so I couldn't forget where bits went

dont forget to remove the clutch inspection cover.
Many people do forget.

Mine had extra supports from engine mount to auto,
but no idea if manuals have them.

I'm also going from carby to EFI but the manual is staying in.

dont forget to take that cover off when i did mine thought i had got every bolt but it wouldnt come apart i missed one in the cover and took me awhile to realize.

Better taking it all out in one go. That way it's easier to do other stuff while it's all out, like replace the clutch. Or simply give everything a good clean and scrub.

I've always left the box in when removing my Vitara engine.

Easy as piss removal. There are only a few curses when re installing and lining up input shaft and spiggot bearing!

The starter motor is a bitch to reach, when you have full sized hands.

Tho with the purchase of some 1/4" drive sockets, that got easier

it is only the engine im doing, gearbox is staying in..
and your not wrong about the starter motor, that wont budge either haha :p

I found it easier to reach the starter after removing the carbon cannister first, could reach along under the manifold. I also massaged my front inner guard, so can get a hand thru there. (helps with having a bl)

I took mine out and left the box in. Make sure you undo all the bolts that hold the engine and box together if you go this way. Also, once new engine is in, assume that there are bolts that aren't done up yet because there will be. Get a second set of eyes to scan for loose bolts.
