Ok so here's the sitch. Yesterday i went to park my girl and the steering went hard. I turned the wheel a bit more and it went bang!!! Steering went soft again. Was normal for a bit . Then happened another time and once again went normal. Decided steering is something that needs to be done right so took it to a shop for a quick quote. He turned the wheel a few times but it was normal. (As they always do) I got down the road and it went hard in both directions. But now it won't return to normal. I have about half an inch turning either way. The car is pulling to the left and won't relieve itself. I don't have power steering. It's a 1996 Suzuki vitara 1.6 jx If I had a guess I would say steering box is frucked. But it seems to be turning the wheels? |

Get someone to steer it while you get underneath and have a look. Don't jack it up, keep the wheels loaded. If you don't have any joy I can take a look |

Possibly the steering box. I once damaged mine wheeling, it had about half a turn of the steering wheel before it would actually turn. The drive home was rather interesting. You might want to check the drag link and balljoints while your at it. |

I think I'm onto something. I have a snapped drivers side CV. When it goes hard my CV doesn't wobble. If I turn the wheel back and wiggle it around it will turn again. So I think one half of the CV is pressing against my hub and stopping the wheel from turning |

does it pull apart when you turn it the opposite way? |

Yeah it does. When i turn the opposite way the broken bit wiggle. When I turn the other way the broken bits bind and press together. It's been like that for months but have never done this. |
