pretty sure this has been covered, but what am i going to need to put a spartan locker in my front diff. 1989 WT

it will be only the front thats locked as i want air locker for rear so that will have to wait, the front locker should still help alot though right ?

Lockright and spartan are a brand name of a type of locker. They are a ratcheting type mechanical locker, when one wheel looses traction the other wheel engages.

A mini spool is constant 2 wheels locked. It basically connects the 2 axels together. Pretty sure you can only mini spool a rear

You can minispool a front too. Same as a welded. Just needs chromo axles for it to work.
I'd auto lock the rear and airlock the front.

Yeah me too haha. But I'm actually doing what I suggested. Airlock my front and leave the auto in the rear before I do masters. Then when I can afford it, airlock the rear.

its a street daily driver also. so i thought auto locker in the rear would get annoying.

so the spartan and lockrites dont allow both wheels to spin at the same speed ? they cut in and out depending on traction ?

i think ill just save for a bit longer and air lock front and rear then

While accelerating its locked but ratchets around corners unless you're into around corners.

Mines a spartan.
I have a welded front at the moment, so I'm going to airlock the front to make turning on the tight courses easier.

It's not about being on the road it's the fact that you want to be able to turn the locker off in the front so it's easier to turn your wheels in a stop position or when you need to do a short turn.

If hubs are disengaged you can have what ever you want

Auto locked rear is fine. Air is obviously a better option, but on a tight budget air front can be turned off in the cab on the tracks for turning and downhill loose ground (it's sketchy). And auto rear isn't noticeable other than it doing its job.

Considering most DD spend around 80% of their life on road some people will consider on road manners to be important. If you are going to spend the money and airlock one end I would do the rear first as well. Just like you have found on road issues to be negligible I have found off road issues to be negligible, each to their own

I agree on that. Offroad I've made compromises with the welded front. But because I'm used to the auto rear now, I like it on road so I'm happy to leave it for now. And make offroad nicer.

Yeah welded front is dodgy and difficult but it's awesome.
