Hi I'm in need of a car to take the family touring and was thinking maybe a xl7 might be ok as it has a higher gvm and larger boot
I should be able to put in my front diff out of my vit in it and mod some hilux cv maybe
To put my tc in do I need a gv auto
Is there any way to put a winch on a xl7 as no one makes winch bars and because of airbags I can't just make my own
Is there a rear locker that can be moded to fit or will a full floating rear gv diff be strong enough
What's everyone thoughts on the idea

I have thought about it but I don't think you can do most of the things you mention.

The early shape you can put a big lift in but the triangle headlight shape you can only lift 50mm.

Outdoor auto do a winch bulbar for airbags but its $$$$$$

With a few parts it would be awesome!!

If you want an XL7 as road tourer, then they are great and have plenty of room ... but if you want to do some offroading in one, then you have to remember, they are not just a LWB, but an Extra LWB, and the undercarriage in the middle will hit alot of things, or get caught on stuff... but you can get Suspension Lift Kits for the XL7, it will help some, but not a great deal... so it really depends on how far of the beaten track you want to go in one... also, the 2.7L V6, is very thirsty compared the 2.5L V6... :D

I think it's putting good money after bad.

XL-7's were a cheap way to suzuki to break into the 7 seater market. The fact they haven't pursued it into the new body shape is a clue it wasn't a good solution. I don't believe that the XL-7 would be strong enough in the driveline or suspension to really make a "tough" tourer. In all honesty.

Touring is pretty hard on the car due to the requirement for high load carrying and long distance+ corrugations+speed. Landcruiser IFS, Patrol rear coil buckets breaking, axle housing breaks on lots of cars

I think it's best to look for something with a higher GVM.

Steve.

You would be better off with a GV than an XL7.

Air lockers, numerous suspension kits, reduction gears and just about every aftermarket accessory is available for them except for a long range tank.

The XL7 had different diffs so lockers may be hard to find/fit.

Xl 7 arnt that bad .225 x70 x16 tires, 2 inch spring spacers , camber pins .home made 6 mm alloy bash plates, ( now building sliders ). portable warn winch and goes any where a slightly moded Sluglux will go including some rock bashing .
Never broken a thing exept the Crap stereo.

Better off getting a suspension lift kit, the stock suspension is fine, if a bit soft for road, but crap offroad, and then put on the spacers... :D
