Have been searching for info re the 16a and 16b. I thought 16a was carby fed and 16b was efi. Alas I found a g16a engine with efi Simply put, what are the differences ? The 16a I got came out of a vitara and from all appearances is near exact on the outside, I did find the efi throttle body intake different (one has a longer throat) and different pellet senser body ( if that makes sense ). Can the 16a being efi go into my vitara whilst I rebuild my 16b ? All the googling has confused me even more hence the post. Regards, chris.

G16A = carby = SWB Vit
G16B = EFI = LWB Vit
G16a EFI = I think it may be an 8 Valve instead of G16B 16V (I could be wrong)
Personally I think putting the G16a EFI will be like putting in a V6 to replace a V8, not so much as in power wise but downgrading in engine. You might as well wait until the B is ready to be reinstalled, less dicking around, headaches etc.

Could you put the injection manifold on the 16a of the 16b?? If so why not run that if it's a daily

close
G16b also came out swb vits in the later models
the japanese also used a g16a with the 16valve efi head.
if it is a 16 valve one just swap your inlet manifold onto the engine and any other sensors and slot it in.

ahhh so it may be an import as it has 16 valves...just pulled the head off and the 16b pistons are the same size...hmmm
velly velly confusing...
would it be possible to interchange parts between the engines ?
I think I read somewhere that the 16a in NZ were 16valve, efi...just wondering where this engine come from, NZ..Japan...who knows !

There are internal differences too. From memory the 16b has a braced crankshaft

I am sure we covered this before and losfer listed all the differences
what it doesn't point to is any difference in the stuff hung off the outside and what head it has, its just the A was made first and it might be something like a different crank girdle setup and slightly different crank, cant remember
