hey all, im sure this has been discussed before, but what experiences has everyone had with the cheaper solenoid dual battery systems like the redarc and the projecta systems on ebay for about 85 bucks or so. i want to put a second battery on my 1992 sierra but dont want to spend the 300 or so bucks on the expensive computer controlled systems

I have an older system (the one there is a newer type) for years and NEVER had a worry at all mate. I think I had it in 2005 and still going 100%.
Back when I got mine they did not have the guage to check your voltage inside the car. But you still don't need to run that anyway.
My son Jason also has one (new type) and it all works well. :-)
Hope this helps? :-)

I have the sidewinder, I thyink someone on the forum told me it's ok, but you have to seal the box to make it water resistant, it's not very water resistant stock. But a bit of silicon or epoxy on the seams should fix that.

Get the redarc.

I was gonna use the ARB sidewinder but they dont even use them for their dual battery systems. They use the Redarc 100amp units.

Are you dyslexic by chance? ABR sidewinder, nothing to do with ARB

ABR or ARB...

pretty sure the sidewinder is ABR, i think it's some pretty dodgy marketing for them to use the same letters as ARB to confuse the masses.

I have a Redarc in my Zook and in the Patrol.

Awesome bit of gear and being able to link batteries at the press of a button is a big advantage. I quite often run my starter battery dead flat when camping with lights, stereo etc but it always starts next morning off the 2nd batt.

The sidewinder does this too.
