Post subject:  Jimny gear box optins?

:helloo: Guys,

As some of you guy's know i broke reserve gear in my M13A vvt jimny. So i have been to my local suzuki dealership to see if they can fix it under warranty...but as per usual they didn't want to know about it  and couldn't even look at the car til next week...so im not going to wait around for them.

So what i would like to do is put a stronger gear box in....but the only option i can find that will bolt up to the m13a VVT motor is a non-vvt m13a gear box. So what i would like to know are these gear boxes much stronger than the VVT boxes? :?

If there is no difference in strength, i was planning on taking my current box out to see what's going on with there...and replacing the clutch at the same time....

Opinion's please on what i should do....

Cheers,

Monley

It sucks aye. Im just waiting for something in mine to go reverse is always hard to get in. even running that vmx80, was good at the start but slowly going back to old ways.

obviously its something in the box thats causing this failure, can the problem item be strengthend/ replaced with better option. set of straight cut gears ha ha ha " nah mate its not the diff whining :D:D"

open the box up anyways since it dont work, And see what the problem is. could be a cheap fix, could be a buy zukenutters old box sitution lol :D

Non Vvt is it, not really stronger, but give's you an overdrive rather then just 5 gear's....

mhh...i wonder what my rev's would be at 100kph with the 20% t-case gear's, 4.3 diff's and the non-vvt box....

Reverse ain't got synchro (same as most cars) just need to release the clutch to biting point while applying pressure to the gear lever. It slots home fine then without any crunching. something about the M13AA gearbox never quite feels right though, I'm not suprised they are seeming to prove unreliable.

Zukenutter will be able to give you his opinion on the non VVT box. In terms of gearing, with the gear box and t-case from earlier model, on the 235's he reckons the gearing is much nicer and he has plenty of power.

As for clutch. I absolutely love the Exedy I have - modified by NPC here. Better than original.

if you want stronger you could take the gearset out and take them to a transmission place, ppg or straight cut gears, wrx style haha

Just the gearbox.

VVT gearbox definitely has issues, mainly the rear main bearing, mine at about 50,000 and just out of warranty. My black Jimny box never missed a beat for 165,000 and was still silky. The box I'm running now has at least 150,000 and feels better than the original. We had it repaired with genuine parts for a very princely sum. For sale Monkey.
