Post subject:  My Jimny and its noises.......

hey people, i have a question or two.

1. i have a set of 30" tyres and the spare on the rear door seems to shake the shit out of the poor Jimny. are there others out there with this problem and how have you sorted it out?

2. I have a 80 TD lift. When i go through some tricky spots and the axles are flex'n like crazy, there is a kinda lout cracking noise coming from what sounds like the front and back of the car. it sounds just like when you crack a big bolt. i have had a good look under and could not find anything loose i even tightened a few things and the sound is still there...... :(

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks :)

Rotate the coils around 10mm away from the little lip thing on the coil mount on the diff. That should stop most of the noise....as for the back door...stekky posted something a while ago about adjusting the stricker plate ( I think thats what its called?), to stop movement in the door. Hope this helps.

Soon after I got my Jimny I bought a Thule bike rack that mounts on the rear wheel carrier. On its maiden voyage I was getting a loud popping noise on big bumps. By the end of the 25km or so trip it was happening on even small bumps. Investigation showed that the extra weight of the bikes was causing the rear door to pop in and out and If I look closely I can see that the rear door is deformed slightly now :(

I solved my problem by getting rid of the rear mounted bike rack.

It seems like even a small amount of extra weight will cause this so I'd suggest that the extra weight of the 30" is causing something similar. You may have to use Glynn.'s suggestion.

I got an aftermarket tyre carrier. Fitted that, but it still applies a lot of shock weight to the rear door over bumps. You have to adjust the disc on the inside leading edge of the door near the lock mechanism. That solved my problem, but the door will still warp a little and bang over large bumps.

I had a cracking noise too once, it was my anti-roll bar linkage cominge loose, the ball joints where the links connect the roll bar to the axle.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking it. Occy straps are downright dangerous.

speaking of, how much weight the rear door of the jimny can hold??

many ppl fitting 235's or 30s, even giving the advice to fit a wheel spacer in top of the 30" tyre, plus a offset rim ect ect... thing that would actually give even more weight to it

so how much is much?? :?

 !

yeah but how long till the door start bend out of the frame......

I remember my brothers and their friends when they had swb ladcruisers (bundy) and the door could only hold a 33" barely... if they go 35, the door would bend out of frame and it wouldnt work properly or close... maybe even open lol.... in fact my brother's rig with a 33" u had to "lift" the door just a tinny bit in order to close it

so wondering wht would be the same for jimnys :?

problems solved :).

tightened the trailing arms, and the cracking stopped ! awesome

to fix the rear door i tried to adjust the rubber disc on the door but there was not enough movement on the disc thing. so what i did to fix this issue was:

1. remove rubber disc by unbolting the disc with a socket and ratchet.

2. using a round file. file down a section in the hole of the metal part of the disc to create a tear drop type shape.

3. refit the disc and and Bobs your uncle.

you now have much more movement for adjustment to tighten the door XD
