I use a wire brush all the time on the bench grinder at work.

Makes things shiney and new again.

As long as what ever the wire brush is made out of is weaker than the thing your buffing it'll be all good!

Meh, Even a steel wire brush is fine on threads. Do it all the time to clean the loctite out of them.

Yes, don't get to much heat in it & strip the brake's out before welding...
