| Post subject: | Changed to: What is this tensioner called? |
Another silly question from me. Was driving home last night, high pitch squeal from the engine, then sudden silence, then the smell of burning rubber and melting plastic. As it happens, I lost power steering. Was able to limp it home until I could have a look at it. So today I open the engine bay up and there's one belt completely missing, and another that has been melted and is just hanging there on what I assume is a tensioner. I'm having a bit of trouble identifying what is what. I've had a look for a good diagram of picture of a G16a 8v from the front-on, showing the belts and pulleys, but haven't been able to find one. If anyone has a good picture, can you please link it? I'll point out what belts are missing and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction for getting them replaced. |

If you have cooked two belts - I would take a good look at the tensioner/pulleys etc to try and find the cause. |

My engine seems a little different to the one in those pictures. It might actually be one belt. On 8v G16a engines, is it one belt that does both the PS and the AC? It might be the one that loops them that has come off and melted a bit on the tensioner. I'll try and snap a pic in the morning, but it's raining here at the moment. |

Yeah, it has aircon. I'll see what I can do for a pic if it stops raining soon. There is no belt on the PS pump, the AC compressor and perhaps another pully in the center-front of the engine. A picture speaks a thousand words, I guess. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the replies. |

Hmm. So a new tensioner + belt should have that fixed? |

think so, its not so easy to see on my small screen, but do your ac and ps pulleys turn easy enough and still all lined up? i cant use my vit as reference cos i dont have ac or ps but i think they all run the same one, with the tensioner, and the tensioner looks so shiny with rubbing |

The AC pully turned very easily and smoothly. Didn't geta chance with the others. I'll have a look. If it's only the AC pully and PS pully missing the belts, the car is still fine to drive, right? Just no AC or PS. |

Its aftermarket AC so the tensioner and belt wont be the Suzistore ones Jsut pull both off and head to repco or some good parts store and get em to match up replacements for you |

Thats what i thought.. The power steering pump is normally the tensioner on your vit Jimny's have seperate tensioners. But they are just a standard sizing bearing in a pulley. Yours might be similar? |

Aftermarket eh? It came with the car when I bought it second hand, so I had no idea :p I'll get out there and unbolt it and take the part to repco or bursons as you said and see what they can do. Thanks guys. |
