hey guys just browsing though LROR and looking at shock hoop when i see what this guy has done to his rear spring hanger? looks like it can slide or pivot on down travel? anyone know what this is called and if it would be affective? (not that i want one looks dodegy) |

I'm guessing without seeing the front of the spring, but I would think that it is a reverse shackle setup, but instead of using a shackle they have used a sliding pivot to avoid having a shackle hanging down. Seems like a good idea but I'm not sure how well it would work

you would have to think with it continuously pivoting it would wear downt quite fast? |

Yeah, I think a block of steel with nylon wrapped around it..... It's instead of a shackle. I'm not sure how well they work.... |

yeah i just dont know how effective it would be? would it still work it they still had the shackle up front? it seems like it would allow the spring to arch down more if there was still a shackle in the front |

It a shackle replacement, I have mainly seen it on the rear of Jeep Cherokee's, its a good way to increase you depature angle so you stop getting hung up on rocks. Seems to work well, from what I have read there is no real problems and they seem to wear well. |

Strange thing though, sitting like that with the diff hanging as it is you would think that it would be at the other end of the slot otherwise it has bottomed out already with no weight on the spring ?? do you know what I mean. |

Is the spring hanging? Could be on a stand that you can't see? The spring looks fairly flat too, like it's got weight on it. |

Yeah I think you are right scrawn, I just enlarged the pic and it looks like there is a block of wood under the rotor on the other side supporting it. But even if that is the case unless there is an elephant sitting on the rocker cover then it is bottomed out just sitting there under the vehicle weight |

I think the way the zook in the OPs post is set up is for fast work and not flex, the angle on the slider is facing up on the chassis.... I wonder if at the other end they have pressed in rose joint...... |

its a slide box that eliminates twist in the leaf spring, alot of the guys in the states were running this setup with there leaf springs for offroad racing back in the day and whilst it worked well there were some issues with longevity. Some guys used nylon blocks in there sliders whilst others tried bearing setups. There is a good write up in pirate 4x4 somewhere |

I did some reading on these a while back. Apparantly they use them in stock car racing in the US. From memory the shackle angle as it cycles changes the effective spring rate. The slider removes the shackle and therefore the varying rate throughout the range of travel. |

Trailers run the same sort of thing. They are called slipper springs. But trailers arnt known for their handling ability though..... |

Well actually you can buy trailer leaf springs which have an elongated eye to allow spring movement
